Rice’s 20 Points and 8 Steals Leads York to Win Over Medgar Evers

BROOKLYN NY– York College guard Shadae Rice scored 20 points and swiped eight steals to lead the Lady Cardinals basketball team to an 85-62 rout of Medgar Evers College in a conference contest Friday evening.
Just like in their previous game, York used turnovers to put the game away. The Lady Cardinals forced the Cougars to turn the ball over 42 times, which resulted in more than half their point total, scoring 47 points off turnovers. The Lady Cardinals also dominated inside, scoring 38 points in the paint, compared to 18 for the Cougars.
The game was relatively close midway through the first half, with York holding a 24-18 lead with 6:24 left before halftime. York exploded in the final six minutes and saw their lead balloon to 17 points (43-26) to close the half. The second half was all York as well, as their advantage swelled to as many as 30 points in this game.
Also contributing for York was Maimouna Dabo—the latest member of the 1,000 point club—who finished with 16 points, eight boards and four assists, as well as Elizabeth Padilla who added ten points.
York improves to 9-12 overall and 6-3 in the CUNY Athletic Conference. They will return to action on Monday when they visit the College of Staten Island at 5:30 p.m.
