Padilla and Rice Score 22 Each but Brooklyn Defeats York 95-69

BROOKLYN, NY— York College senior Elizabeth Padilla and sophomore Shadae Rice each chipped in 22 points apiece but it would not be enough as Brooklyn College defeated the York College women's basketball team 95-69 on Wednesday night in a CUNY Athletic Conference contest.
While Rice and Padilla did the majority of the scoring for York, Brooklyn used a balanced attack to earn the lop-sided victory. The Bulldogs saw five of its players reach double figures in scoring, led by Ariel Smith who narrowly missed a triple-double, scoring 18 points, dishing out 13 assists and grabbing nine rebounds. Justine O'Callahan finished with 16 points and seven rebounds to aid Brooklyn as well.
York was never really in the game, with Brooklyn jumping out to a ten-point cushion (16-6) just 5:30 into the contest. Brooklyn closed the half with a big run and went up by 19 points (51-32) at halftime. York played with Brooklyn in the second half but could not overcome the big first-half deficit.
With the loss, York falls to 9-14, 6-5 in the CUNYAC, while Brooklyn improves to 14-9, 10-2 in the CUNYAC. York will return to action on Saturday at 1:00 p.m., when they host the City College of New York. It will be senior day as well and each senior member of the Cardinals will be honored before the game. In addition, the game is part of York College's “Spirit Week.” A number of prizes will be given out before and during the game, including Jet Blue Tickets.
