Inaugural Season Comes to an End for Women’s Soccer Team Following Semifinal Loss to CSI
STATEN ISLAND, NY— The first-ever season for the York College women's soccer team ended quietly Wednesday, as the Cardinals were defeated 6-0 by the College of Staten Island in the semifinals of the CUNY Athletic Conference/ Applebee's Women's Soccer Championship.
Staten Island won the two regular season match-ups against York in dominating fashion, and the trend continued in the playoffs, as the Dolphins wasted little time putting the game away.
A goal by CSI's Demi-Jean Martorano just a minute into the game made it 1-0 and five minutes later, Natalie Tombasco made it 2-0 in favor of the Dolphins.
Tombasco scored the next two goals, in the 14
th and 24
th minute, to make it 4-0 with plenty of time left on the clock. The Dolphins added one more first-half goal and one in the second half to round out the scoring.
The Dolphins will now take on John Jay in the CUNYAC Championship game on Saturday at Randall's Island at 4:00 p.m. York ends its inaugural season with a record of 1-13.
