Baruch Bests York in Women’s Basketball
Box Score
NEW YORK, NY– Shadae Rice and Elizabeth Padilla combined to score more than half its teams' point total but it would not be enough, as Baruch College extended its perfect conference record and defeated the York College women's basketball team 75-64 Friday night.
Baruch now stands at 16-4, 9-0 in the CUNYAC, while York drops to 7-11, 4-3 in conference play. York got a game-high 20 points in addition to seven rebounds from Rice and 17 points from Padilla but Baruch had a more balanced attack, with two players netting 18 points and two finishing with ten points. Folshade Akinde had a big game, grabbing 20 rebounds in addition to scoring 18 points.
The Bearcats jumped out to a lead early and never looked back. A lay-up by Maria Turner gave Baruch an 18-7 advantage, it's biggest margin of the first half, with 11:27 to play. The Lady Cardinals rallied late in the half to cut the lead to two points (30-28), following a Rice lay-up with 1:25 to play. However, Baruch closed the half with five straight points to go up by seven at halftime.
Baruch came out strong in the second half and went up by 19 points (47-28) just four minutes into the second half. York could not recover from the scoring stretch and the Bearcats cruised the rest of the way.
York will look to get back on track on Monday when they visit the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy at 7:00 p.m.
