Men Win, Women Lose in Swim Meet vs. Brooklyn
JAMAICA, NY— The York College men's swimming team earned its first win of the season Thursday evening, defeating Brooklyn College 103-80. The women, meanwhile, were defeated by the Bulldogs by a score of102-78.
Men's Recap
Vlad Vyzhymov won a pair of events to lead the Cardinals to victory. Vyzhymov got York off to the right start, by winning the 800-free and Tashi T. followed with a victory in the 200-free. Two races later, York got a 1-2 finish from Mostafa Elbasal and Timoteo Baltazar in the 100-fly. York's Jesse Gavilanes was also victorious in the 100-backstroke.
After eight events, the two teams were knotted up at 68-68. However, York took over from there, winning the final three events. Baltazar and Vyzhymov won the 400-free and 100-breastsroke respectively and then York closed the meet by winning the 200-free relay.
Women's Recap
Despite the loss, the Lady Cardinals were able to pick up wins in three events. Averie Mohammed continued her success in the 100-free, besting three other Brooklyn swimmers. Ayanna Bennett then followed with a victory in the 100-backstroke and Chanel Howard was victorious in the 100-breaststroke.
With the win, the men improve to 1-1, while the women fall to 0-3 with the loss. Both teams will host Baruch College on Monday at 6:00 p.m.
