Mario Tang

York College promoted assistant coach Mario Tang to head women’s volleyball ahead of the 2023 season.  Tang served as assistant coach during the 2022 campaign at York under head coach Christy Herring.

Recently completing his second season at the helm, Tang has been instrumental in establishing a culture, graduating four-year greats Shamonie Miller (2018-19, 22-23) and Nadaysia Nivar (2019, 21-23) and building a competitive squad with great camaraderie in the 2024 campaign. His four wins as the York headman display indicators of a program rising in the CUNYAC ranks. Tang recorded his first Cardinals victory in a straight-set splash at Medgar Evers College on September 9, 2023. In the past two seasons, Nadaysia Nivar and Jasmine Vega were honored as CUNYAC Sportsmanship Team members. In late October, freshman Maritza Ortega Ramirez claimed the program's first CUNYAC Rookie of the Week laurel since Allison Li in 2013.

Tang on being named head coach in 2023:
