Maritza Ortega Ramirez was recognized Tuesday as the CUNYAC Women's Volleyball Rookie of the Week for matches played Oct. 21-27. This is the outside hitter's first-career CUNYAC weekly honor and the program's first laurel since Kiara Gonzalez claimed Player of the Week in 2019. Dating back to 2013, Ortega Ramirez became the program's first CUNYAC Rookie of the Week award winner since Allison Li.
Starring for the Cardinals in a five-set triumph against Medgar Evers (Oct. 24), Ortega Ramirez totaled career-highs eight kills and 35 total attacks and scooped up an impressive 11 digs. In 11 contests this season, the outside hitter is second on the team in points (44), kills (29), aces (15), and digs (73).
