York College returns to action tomorrow for a CUNYAC Senior Day showdown versus John Jay College

PURCHASE, NY --- (www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College softball returned to action Thursday afternoon for a non-conference twinbill against the Purchase College Panthers (13-15). The Cardinals fell 17-1 in game one, and dropped a 16-0 decision to end the twinbill.

Game 1: Purchase 17, York 1 (5 Inn.)
  • Natalie Gallo (W, 2-0; 5 IP, H, R (0 ER), BB, 12 SO) came out hot for Purchase, striking out the side in the top of the first inning.
  • The Panthers took a commanding 5-0 edge in the bottom of the frame, sending 11 batters to the plate against Cardinal starter Alyssa De La Rosa (0-1, 4 IP, 12 H, 17 ER, 4 BB, SO). Gallo (1-for-1, 2 BB, 3 R, 3 RBI) got the party started with a walk and a steal, followed by an RBI single from Christiana Bazzini. Purchase pieced together the next four runs via two more walks, four hit by pitches, two wild pitches, and one steal.
  • On the strength of eight hits, one walk, and one hit by pitch, the Panthers added eight runs in the bottom of the second to increase the edge to 13-0. A pair of two-run doubles from Gallo and Arielle Reddick (2-for-3, R, 2 RBI) put a stamp on the stanza.
  • Gallo continued her dominance in the circle in the third frame, collecting her ninth strikeout in as many batters.
  • Bryce Kane's RBI-double in the bottom of the third made it 14-0.
  • Samantha Panameno walked to lead off the fourth inning, representing York's first baserunner. However, three quick outs stopped any form of a rally.
  • Purchase tacked on three runs in the home half of the frame, extending the lead to 17. Liv Goff and Tyler Salerno (1-for-2, 2 R, 2 RBI) both produced RBI-hit by pitches, and Ava Knox brought home the Panthers' final run of the contest with a run-scoring single.
  • Down to their last out, Amaniya Aiken (1-for-2, R) started a rally with a single to right. De La Rosa then reached on an error from right fielder Tyler Salerno, plating Aiken for York's first run. Gallo induced a Madison Keir pop-up to finalize the 17-1 outcome.
Game 2: Purchase 16, York 0 (5 Inn.)
  • The Cardinals threatened to start proceedings. Panameno (BB, SB) walked and stole second, followed by Jaymie Mateo's (1-for-2) base knock to get runners on second and third with one out. Starting pitcher Ava Knox (W, 2-2; 5 IP, 2 H, BB, 3 SO) settled down, getting a flyout and a strikeout to keep the game scoreless.
  • The Panthers exploded offensively for nine runs in the bottom of the first off starting pitcher Mulazia Woods (3 IP, 11 H, 15 ER, 7 BB). Similar to the first contest, Gallo (1-for-2, 2 BB, 2 R, 2 RBI) singled, stole second, and touched home plate via a single from Bazzini (2-for-2, 2 BB, R, 2 RBI). A trio of two-RBI hits helped produce the next eight runs. Salerno (2-for-2, 2 R, 2 RBI) smacked a 2-RBI single, Gallo torched the team's lone extra-base hit of the frame, and Bazzini's two-RBI single plated the final two runs.
  • A three-run triple by Reddick (1-for-2, R, 3 RBI) capped off a five-run bottom of the second for Purchase, making the score 14-0.
  • Following a triple by Halle Greaige in the top of the third, Kane singled up the middle to generate the team's 15th run of the afternoon.
  • Coming in as a relief pitcher, Abreu (IP, 2 H, ER, 2 BB) held the Panthers to only one additional run in the fourth.
  • York had a pair of runners reach base in the fifth inning, including a single by Keir (1-for-2). The squad could not get in the scoring column though, as Knox finished off her shutout.
