www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College men's basketball settled for a season-series split Friday against the Brooklyn College Bulldogs (10-14, 8-5 CUNYAC), falling 82-68 in a pivotal CUNYAC road contest inside the West Quad Center Gymnasium.
How it Happened
- Both sides played each other even in the first 6:16, with Gozie Chinegwundoh's triple leveling the score at nine.
- Brooklyn started to assert its will in the next 2:02, utilizing an 8-1 burst to lead 17-10.
- Babacar Gueye knocked down two triples to keep York within striking distance (22-18).
- The Bulldogs then began to pull away, as an extended 14-6 stretch pushed the advantage to 12 (36-24) with 5:14 remaining in the half.
- Malakai Clark's three-point play tried to stop the blitz (36-27), but Brooklyn kept increasing the margin, outscoring the Cardinals 13-3 in the final 4:41 to close out the period.
- Keeping the fire on, Abdoulaye Gueye's three-pointer gave the Bulldogs a game-best 24-point edge (59-35).
- Gueye and Bryce Haynes responded with consecutive triples for York trim the deficit to 18 (59-41).
- Keeping the pressure on, a further 14-6 expanded spurt got the margin down to 10 (65-55) with 8:25 showing on the clock.
- Brooklyn countered the run with a swift 7-0 burst, extended the lead to 17 (72-55) with five minutes to go.
- A Chinegwundoh triple made it a four-possession game (72-60) at the 4:02 mark, but it did not matter, as the Bulldogs ultimately closed out an 82-68 victory.
Leading the Cardinals
- Jonte Wallace led all scorers with 19 points (8-of-16 FG) and paced the Cardinals in rebounds (8) and a career-high seven assists.
- Clark continued his impressive scoring streak with 11 points (4-of-8 FG, 3-of-3 FT), and also contributed defensively with a team-leading two blocks.
- Chinegwundoh added 10 points, seven rebounds, and three steals.
- Gueye swished home a career-best three triples to score nine points off the bench.
- Christopher Smith and Joshua Jackman provided a presence inside with seven rebounds each.
For Brooklyn
- Joe Charles netted a team-best 16 points (5-of-12 FG, 3-of-4 3FG, 3-of-4 FT) to go along with seven rebounds and four assists.
- D'Aze Hunter stuffed the stat sheet with 14 points, eight rebounds, and a game-high 10 assists.
- Hall authored a solid performance with 14 points (4-of-7 3FG), six rebounds, and two steals.
- Gueye (13 points and six rebounds) and Altin Kukaj (11 points and five assists) rounded out the team's double-digit scorers.

York shot 35.2 percent (25-of-71) from the floor, 32 percent (8-of-25) from downtown, and 62.5 percent (10-of-16) from the free-throw line. Brooklyn connected on 47.5 percent (28-of-59) of its field goals, converted on 13 out of 24 triples, and sank 13 extra shots. Besides the shooting edge, the Bulldogs totaled more assists (26-20 and steals (10-9), while the Cardinals won the rebound (43-40) and block (3-2) categories. In a similar statistical battle, York generated more paint points (32-22) and second-chance points (15-8), as opposed to Brooklyn, which led in fast-break scoring (18-9) and points off turnovers (21-20).
