@yorkcardinals Men’s Basketball nets season-high 103 points in Senior Day domination against Medgar Evers

York College hosts No. 5 seed John Jay College on Saturday (Feb. 21)

JAMAICA, NY-- (www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College men's basketball controlled the pace of play in their CUNYAC-finale Tuesday evening, scoring a season-best 103 points in their CUNYAC-finale against the Medgar Evers College Cougars (1-24, 1-13 CUNYAC) from York College Gymnasium.

Before the opening tip, Bryan Godette (2024-26), Benjamin Grant (2024-26), and Christopher Smith (2025-26) were honored for their dedication to York Athletics with the annual Senior Day Ceremony.

How it Happened
  • A pair of three-pointers by Joshua Jackman sparked an 11-0 start for York.
  • Joash Beaton's layup for Medgar trimmed the deficit to nine (17-8) at the 12:53 mark of the first half. This was the last time the Cougars were within single digits the rest of the contest.
  • The Cardinals picked up the pace, utilizing an 18-0 surge to lead by 27 (35-8) with 6:16 left in the period. A
  • nother triple by Jackman extended the advantage to a first-half high 32 (47-15) with 1:50 showing on the clock.
  • York ultimately took a 49-20 scoreline into the locker room. 
  • Continuing their dominant play, the Cardinals began the second half on a 24-2 burst, bringing the margin to 51 (73-22) remaining in the game.
  • The rest of the frame was played around the 50-60 point differences, with Mahama Sawadogo's layup on York's final possession closing out the 103-41 result. 
Leading the Cardinals
  • Jackman poured in a season-best 30 points (13-of-20 FG, 4-of-7 3FG) and hauled in a game-high 12 boards, capturing his fourth double-double of the season.
  • The forward also tallied two blocks and three steals. Grant saved his best for last, notching 16 points (6-of-10 FG, 2-of-3 3FG) and eight rebounds off the bench.
  • Jonte Wallace provided another solid effort, totaling 14 points, seven rebounds, and four assists.
  • Smith and Gozie Chinegwundoh each chipped in with 10 points.
  • Godette (8) and Sawadogo (6) both netted season-highs in points.
  • Jaidan Johnson (8) and Bryce Haynes (7) distributed the rock for 15 combined dimes.
For Medgar Evers
  • Beaton scored a team-best 17 points and secured 11 rebounds.
  • Ahmed Toure swatted a game-best three shots.
  • Boubacar Mbaye (7) and Gent Sinananj (6) contributed to the Cougar scoring output.
Inside the Box Score
York scorched the nets, shooting a season-high 48.9 (44-of-90) percent from the floor and 46.7 (7-of-15) from downtown. Tough defense held Medgar to 19.8 percent (16-of-81) from the floor, and 3.2 percent (1-of-31) from beyond the arc. In addition, the Cardinals had the advantage in rebounds (71-47), assists (32-3), and steals (13-10), while the Cougars swatted away more shots (8-3). Defensively, York turned 22 Medgar follies into 28 points off turnovers and scored 25 fast break points as well.

The Cardinals have claimed the No. 4 seed in the upcoming CUNYAC Championships and will host the No. 5 seed John Jay College Bloodhounds Saturday (Feb. 21) starting at 1 p.m. inside York College Gymnasium. This is the program's fourth playoff appearance in the last five seasons.
