www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College women's basketball continued CUNYAC action Friday evening with a road encounter against the Hunter College Hawks (11-4, 4-0 CUNYAC), falling 77-39 inside Hunter Sportsplex.
How it Happened
- The Hawks steadily built a first-quarter lead, with Ali Drake's jumper at 5:42 pushing the score to 6-0.
- Good defense stymied Hunter's attack for the following 3+ minutes, and Amaniya Aiken's three-pointer with 2:18 remaining halved the deficit (6-3).
- Mia Fuller's triple with 33 seconds on the clock ended the scoring with the Hawks ahead 14-5.
- The Cardinals kept pace in the early stages of the second stanza, as baskets by Aiken, Tyla Hooks, and Beautifull Earth trimmed the deficit to eight (20-12) at 6:46.
- Responding with a prolonged 23-0 burst, Hunter took a 43-15 advantage into halftime.
- York had a strong scoring output to begin the third quarter, netting seven points in the opening 2:28 to make it a 47-22 game.
- The Cardinals maintained their offensive punch, as a pair of baskets and a free throw by Earth cut the deficit to 23 (51-28) with 4:42 left in the quarter.
- The Hawks closed on a 10-3 spurt to extend the advantage to 31.
- Hunter outpaced York 15-8 in the final frame to seal a 77-39 victory.
Leading the Cardinals
- Aiken nearly posted a triple-double, leadingYork with a game-high 18 points (3-of-9 3FG, 5-of-8 FT), to go with nine steals and seven rebounds.
- Earth recorded a double-double with 11 points and a team-high 11 rebounds. The forward was also a defensive force, collecting six steals and swatting two shots.
- Arta Gjeloshi contributed across the stat sheet with five points, six rebounds, three steals, and two assists, while Chamiya Foy controlled the glass with eight rebounds.
For Hunter
- Gianna Henriques had a solid offensive and defensive display, scoring 14 points (7-of-15 FG), grabbing a team-best 14 rebounds, and swatting away two shots.
- Drake added 13 points (5-of-9 FG, 3-of-4 FT), six rebounds, four steals, and three assists.
- Makkedah Murray had an all-around game with 11 points, seven rebounds, and seven steals.
- Off the bench, Wanhua Peng tied Henriques' mark of 14 points (5-of-10 FG, 2-of-4 FT).
Inside the Box Score
York shot 21.7 percent (13-of-60) from the floor, 42.1 percent (8-of-19) from the charity stripe, and canned five three-pointers. Hunter hit on 39.2 percent (29-of-74) of its shots, drained seven triples, and shot 63.2 percent (12-of-19) from the free-throw line. In addition, the Hawks had the edge in rebounds (53-46), assists (19-6), steals (26-20), and blocks (4-3). Those 26 thefts helped Hunter net 34 points off turnovers and 25 points on fast breaks.
