@yorkcardinals Women’s Basketball competes at Lehman in CUNYAC matchup

York College hosts Baruch College Friday (Jan. 16) in a CUNYAC affair

BRONX --- (www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College women's basketball traveled Wednesday (Jan. 14) for a CUNYAC matchup against the 
Lehman College Lightning (9-8, 4-1 CUNYAC), falling 80-26 from APEX Arena. 

How it Happened
  • The Lightning opened the first 4:54 on a 13-0 burst with Isabella Araujo (5) and Emily Kennedy (4) accounting for nine of the points.
  • Beautifull Earth got York on the board with a layup at the 3:55 mark.
  • Chamiya Foy netted the Cardinals' second basket of the quarter with 2:23 remaining in the period, making it a 16-4 scoreline.
  • Nelson Asamoah's layup with six seconds showing on the clock closed out an 8-0 Lightning spurt to end a 22-4 stanza. 
  • York opened the second quarter with increased offensive energy, scoring eight points in the first three minutes behind baskets from Foy, Amaniya Aiken, and Arta Gjeloshi.
  • Holding a 34–12 advantage, Lehman closed the half on an 18–4 run over the final seven minutes to take a commanding 50–16 lead into intermission.
  • Despite the 34-point deficit at halftime, the Cardinals' 12 points in the second quarter marked their highest scoring output of the game.
  • Adding onto their advantage, the Lightning won the third frame 14-4 to go up by 44 (64-20).
  • Lehman utilized a 16-6 fourth quarter to seal an 80-26 result. 
Leading the Cardinals
  • Foy scored a career-high eight points, grabbed 12 rebounds (six offensive), and recorded the team's lone block.
  • Aiken matched Foy's eight-point effort and totaled a team-high four steals.
  • Earth hauled in a game-leading 15 rebounds and generated three steals.
  • Gjeloshi splashed home York's lone three-point basket. 
For Lehman
  • Heaven Figueroa displayed all her skills with 20 points (6-of-12 FG, 8-of-8 FT), 14 rebounds, five assists, and five steals.
  • Araujo added 12 points, four steals and three assists. 
  • Kennedy rounded out the Lightning's double-digit scorers with 10 points (5-of-6 FG) to go along with six steals.
  • Mushurafa Muniru tallied a game-high seven steals and Jazel Matias equalled Figueroa's five-assist total. 
Inside the Box Score 
York shot 17 percent (9-of-53) from the field and 25 percent (7-of-28) from the charity stripe. In contrast, Lehman connected on 36.6 percent (30-of-82) of its field goals, canned six triples, and landed 66.7 percent (14-of-21) from the free-throw line. Both squads grabbed 54 rebounds, but the Lightning had the edge in assists (22-4) and steals (33-9). Lehman utilized that steal discrepancy to score 42 points off turnovers and 29 fast break points.
