NEW YORK-- (
www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College men's basketball battled Friday on the road against City College of New York Beavers (6-14, 5-4 CUNYAC), with four players scoring in double digits, but ultimately dropped a 88-76 CUNYAC decision inside Nat Holman Gymnasium.
How it Happened
- Both teams traded baskets early on as Malakai Clark's three-point play knotted the score at 10 at the 15:10 mark of the first half.
- CCNY then went on an 8-2 burst to lead 18-12.
- The Cardinals responded with a 12-4 stretch to take a two-point edge (24-22) with 9:09 remaining in the half.
- Level at 25 with 6:49 showing on the clock, the Beavers bared down defensively, holding York to two points in the following 5:01 of action as a part of a 16-2 surge. Michael Bowman (7) and Abdias Carcamo (6) combined for 13 of the 16 points.
- Camryn Reyes closed out the 45-32 first half with a layup at 0:17.
- The Cardinals trimmed the deficit to eight (51-43) with 15:32 remaining in the contest following a layup by Joshua Jackman. That was the closest they got for the next (12:01).
- Scoring at will, CCNY seemingly pulled away with an extended 19-8 blitz, with Fabian Cruz's dunk at 10:37 giving the Beavers a 70-51 edge.
- Trailing 74-57, York utilized a quick 7-0 sprint to make it a 10-point ballgame (74-64) with 6:40 on the clock.
- Staying within striking distance, Christopher Smith's free throw managed to get the margin to seven points (80-73) at 2:51.
- The Cardinals could not make another dent, however, as CCNY ultimately triumphed 88-76.
Leading the Cardinals
- Wallace led all scorers with 22 points (8-of-18 FG, 6-of-11 FT) to go along with eight rebounds and two steals.
- Smith added 14 points, five rebounds, and two steals.
- Clark totaled 12 points (5-of-7 FG), marking his third-consecutive double-figure scoring game.
- Gozie Chinegwundoh contributed 11 points, five rebounds, and a team-high three steals.
- Jackman chipped in eight points, five rebounds, three blocks and two steals.
- Jaidan Johnson helped the offensive rhythm with a team-leading five assists.
For CCNY
- Reyes paced the squad with 19 points (9-of-18 FG), nine rebounds, four assists, and two steals.
- Carcamo provided efficient offense with 18 points (6-of-8 FG, 3-of-5 3FG, 3-of-5 FT) and a game-best eight assists.
- Bowman tallied 16 points (4-of-9 FG, 7-of-8 FT), five boards, and three assists.
- Cruz rounded out the double-digit scorers with 10 points (5-of-7 FG).
- Defensively, Samuel Olubakin generated three steals, and Kayson Dinkins recorded three blocks.
Inside the Box Score
York shot 43.8 percent from the field (28-of-64), made one three-pointer, and shot 59.4 percent (19-of-32) from the charity stripe. The Beavers made 47.6 percent (30-of-63) of their shots, canned seven triples, and scored 21 points from the charity stripe. CCNY also had the advantage in rebounds (56-44) and assists (26-16), while the Cardinals won the steal (16-10) and block (7-5) categories.
