Christopher Smith was recognized Tuesday by the Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association (MWBA) as a Men's Basketball Divisions II/III Player of the Week Honorable Mention selection for games played Jan. 5-11. This is Smith's second MBWA weekly laurel this campaign (Dec. 16,
read more), and the program's third, as
Joshua Jackman garnered an MBWA selection for his performance in early December (

Helping the squad to a 2-0 record, the shifty guard averaged 18 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 2.5 steals per game. Defeating CCNY (Jan. 7) 70-62, he scored a team-high 21 points (7-of-15 FG, 7-of-10 FT), hauled in seven rebounds, and contributed defensively with two blocks and four steals. In a road triumph at Hunter (Jan. 9), Smith led the team with 15 points (5-of-7 FT) and added four rebounds and two assists.
In 11 contests this year, the Newburgh, New York native leads the team with 13.7 points, 2.5 assists, 2.4 steals, and 1.1 blocks per game. He also ranks second in rebounding (6.7 p/game). Among CUNYAC competitors, he places seventh in scoring, ninth in rebounding, 11th in assists, second in steals, and fifth in blocks on a per-game basis.
