Aboagye-Frimpong scores twice as @yorkcardinals Men’s Soccer earns 2-1 victory over Valley Forge, extending their unbeaten streak

York College closes out non-conference play Saturday (Sept. 27) with a visit to Saint Elizabeth University, aiming to extend its unbeaten run

PHOENIXVILLE, PA --- (www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College Men's Soccer notched its first win of the season on Wednesday afternoon, defeating the University of Valley Forge Patriots (2-6-1), 2–1, in a non-conference road matchup at The Patriot Field. After conceding the opening goal in the 18th minute, the Cardinals locked in defensively and held the Patriots scoreless the rest of the contest. Fueled by a two-goal outing from Derick Aboagye-Frimpong, York extended its unbeaten streak to three straight matches — the program's longest since 2019.

First-Half Breakdown
A back-and-forth beginning, Melvin Maldonado broke the deadlock for Valley Forge at the 17:44 mark. The Patriots did not lead for long, as Derick Aboagye-Frimpong's ferocious left-footed effort from the edge of the 18-yard box found the back of the net. Both defenses and goalkeepers stood tall the rest of the stanza. York netminder George Molina (1-2-2) repelled shots from Maldonado and Edras Turcios-Valle, and Patriot goalie Brandon Thompson (0-2-0) stopped two attempts from Aboagye-Frimpong in the final minute.

Second-Half Breakdown
York's Troy Batac had the first shot on goal of the half at the 47:37 mark. Both teams struggled to find clear openings, but Aboagye-Frimpong popped up once again, as his long-range effort squeezed under Thompson's gloves in the 65th minute. The freshman sensation came close to a hat-trick with 15 minutes remaining, as his long shot cannoned off the crossbar. Trying to find an equalizer, Turcios-Valle missed a penalty in the 84th minute for the Patriots, keeping the 2-1 scoreline intact.

Inside the Box Score
The Cardinals managed a season-best 25 shots, with nine reaching the target. In contrast, Valley Forge registered 12 shots and six shots on goal. The Patriots also had the edge in corner kicks (7-4). Molina tallied five stops and Thompson recorded seven saves.
