www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College men's and women's indoor track & field combined to produce 15 personal records including a medal in the distance medley relay (DMR) event Saturday at the CUNYAC Championships from the Nike Track & Field Center at The Armory.
The Cardinals totaled 37 points and placed fourth in the men's meet, while York scored six points to take fourth place in the women's competition. Overall, Medgar Evers College earned 193 points in the men's championship and 202 points in the women's championship to sweep the titles.
Men's Performance Breakdown
- The Cardinals totaled 37 points to finish fourth overall as Medgar Evers College won the men's title with 193 points, edging Hunter College by a margin of nine.
- The DMR team of Ernest Bawilliam, Bryan Ortiz, Richard Reyes and Michael Zhang opened the scoring with seven points to combine for York's lone medal on the day, finishing in second place in 11:58.86, marking an improvement by 28.90.
- Reyes recorded fifth-place results in the mile (5:12.50) and 3,000-meter (10:40.48) events, earning eight total points.
- Chris Merilan compiled eight points with a pair of fifth-place finishes in the 60-meter hurdles (10.29, personal-record) and triple jump (11.45 meters).
- Bawilliam supplied six individual points, racing to sixth-place efforts in the 800-meter (2:17.56, personal-record) and mile (5:20.61) events.
- Zhang added four individual points to York's tally, three in the 3,000-meter category (11:08.00, 6th) and one point in the 800-meter event (2:25.35, 8th).
- Ahmed Algendy tossed the shot put a distance of 9.36 to earn four points, as Jacob Matthews turned in an effort of 6.73 meters.
- Suwesi Richards set PRs in both the 60-meter dash (7.75, 6th place) and 200-meter (25.52, 8th place) races.
Women's Performance Breakdown
- York's seven personal records to place fourth with six points overall, while Medgar Evers' 202 points led the Cougars to the women's championship.
- Sherley Bonne-Annee posted a pair of PRs to account for all six of York's points to pace the squad. In the shot put, Bonne-Annee's attempt landed 7.60 meters to take fifth place. Bonne-Annee raced the 200-meter event in 32.11 to claim one point in eighth place.
- York also took 10th and 11th place in the 200-meter race as Keanna Clouden clocked in at 32.52 and Jordeena Jervis registered a time of 40.20.
- In the 60-meter dash, Clouden led York by crossing the finish line in 9.26 (9th place), while Jordanna Jervis (11.02) and Jordeena Jervis (11.09) followed in 11th and 12th place, respectively.
