www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College women's basketball closed out a two-game road trip Friday in a CUNYAC matchup against the Lehman College Lightning, (11-11, 7-4 CUNYAC). After a competitive first quarter, the Lightning pulled away with a 69-46 victory from The APEX.
How it Happened
- Madison Plaza's 3-pointer at the 2:38 mark of the first quarter capped off York's 10-6 start.
- The Lightning responded with a 5-0 spurt to lead 11-10.
- A pair of free throws from Alicia Gumbs closed out the opening frame to put York infront, 12-11.
- Knotted at 16, two triples from Heaven Figueroa gave Lehman a six-point edge (22-16) with 5:02 remaining in the half.
- Emily Kennedy's layup at 3:07 pushed the Lightning's advantage to a first-half high nine points (27-18).
- Gumbs converted a layup with 52 seconds left to make the score 30-23 at halftime.
- A layup by Amaniya Aiken trimmed York's deficit to five (36-31) at the 5:44 point of the third quarter, the closest York would get the rest of the contest.
- Lehman took control immediately, as Figueroa's 3-pointer capped off a 7-0 burst to lead 43-31.
- Extending their lead even further, the Lightning finished the final 2:54 on a 12-3 scoring spree, upping the score to 55-36 going into the final frame.Â
- A 14-10 fourth quarter sealed Lehman's 69-46 victory.Â
Leading the Cardinals
- Aiken tied a season-high with 17 points to go along with seven rebounds (three offensive) and three steals.
- Gumbs produced 11 points (7-of-10 FT), five rebounds, and a team-best four assists.Â
- Beautifull Earth had an all-around statline of eight rebounds (five offensive), four points, three steals and three assists.Â
- Plaza chipped in with six points while Michelle Mancuso netted four and recorded two steals.
For Lehman
- Figueroa authored a double-double with 28 points and 10 rebounds. She also contributed game-highs in assists (8), and steals (7).
- Kennedy produced an all-around contest with 22 points (9-of-14 FG), eight rebounds, and seven assists. Â
- Musharaf Muniru netted 12 points and hauled in a game-leading 13 rebounds.Â
Inside the Box Score
The Cardinals shot 28.6 percent (16-of-56) from the field, 7.1 percent (1-of-14) from downtown, and canned 13 free throws. Lehman hit on 40.6 percent (28-of-69) of its field goals, made four triples, and shot 81.8 percent (9-of-11) from the charity stripes. Inside, the Lightning won the rebound battle (54-31) and outscored York 36-26 in the paint. Additionally, Lehman had the upper hand in assists (19-7), steals (11-9), fast break points (16-10), and points off turnovers (22-10).
