How it Happened
- Gumbs' layup started the scoring at the 8:39 mark of the first quarter.
- Baruch responded with 12 unanswered points to lead 12-2.
- Anaminya Aiken canned a triple to make it 12-5, but the Bearcats closed the final 4:02 of the frame on a 9-2 burst to extend their advantage to 14 (21-7).
- Baskets by Lola Idir and Mia Castillo gave Baruch its first 20-point advantage (27-7) with 8:10 remaining in the half.
- Finding their groove offensively, the Cardinals trimmed the deficit back to 14 (33-19) after Gumbs' layup at the 4:11 point of the period.
- Castillo's buzzer-beating layup capped off a 15-0 scoring spree for the Bearcats, who took a 29-point edge (48-19) into halftime.
- A 21-11 third stanza for Baruch extended the lead to 39 (69-30).
- Behind five different scorers, the Cardinals won the final frame 16-11, closing out an 80-46 Baruch victory.Ā
Leading the Cardinals
- Gumbs netted a team-best 21 points (9-of-21 FG, 3-of-6 FT), adding two assists and a pair of blocks as well.
- Aiken tallied 11 points, five rebounds, and four steals.
- Plaza chipped in with seven points and seven rebounds.
- Beautifull Earth tied Plaza's mark of seven boards and also recorded four steals.
For Baruch
- Castillo authored an all-around performance with 23 points (9-off-21 FG, 4-of-8 FT), nine assists, and five steals.
- D'Andre McRae totaled 14 points (7-of-10 FG), seven rebounds, and four assists off the bench.
- Lilliana Morales contributed 12 points (6-of-13 FG), a game-high eight boards, and five assists.
- Elissa Leung totaled nine points, six assists, and five rebounds.
Inside the Box Score
The Cardinals connected on 26.1 percent (18-of-69) of their field goals and swished home nine free throws. Baruch shot 46.6 percent (34-of-73) from the floor, 33.3 percent (4-of-12) from downtown, and 53.3 percent (8-of-15) from the charity stripe. Beyond shooting percentages, the Bearcats had the advantage in rebounds (41-34), assists (29-5), and steals (16-11), while York had a 3-2 edge in blocks. On the turnover side, Baruch turned 24 Cardinal follies into 26 points, helping them achieve a 29-4 gap inĀ fast-break points.
