BROOKLYN, NY --- (
www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College women's basketball traveled Wednesday evening for a non-conference matchup against the Pratt Institute Cannoneers (1-1). The Cardinals found their rhythm in the second half, but were unable to erase an early deficit and fell 57–36 inside the Pratt ARC.

A free throw by Emily Carlson capped off Pratt's 7-0 start.
Zamora Wellington got York on the board with a three-pointer with 3:43 remaining in the first quarter, trimming the deficit to four (7-3). The Cannoneers closed out an 11-3 quarter with four free throws from Anabela Jakelic. A triple by
Imani Gibson and a fastbreak score from
Yanirzy Murillo keyed a 5-2 beginning to the second frame, closing the margin to five (13-8). Pratt responded with a 9-0 run to extend its edge to 14 (22-8) at the 5:04 mark of the quarter. The Cardinal defense allowed only one point the rest of the half, and Gibson's second three-pointer of the night got the contest to within 10 points (23-13) at intermission.
Both squads played even through the first 4:31 of the third, as
Beautifull Earth's tip-in retained the ten-point margin (30-20). The Cannoneers pulled away in the remaining 5:29 of the stanza, utilizing an 11-3 blitz to take a 41-23 advantage into the final quarter.
Arta Gjeloshi's triple managed to close the gap to 14 (45-31) with 6:48 on the clock in the fourth quarter. Pratt put the contest in no doubt, however, as an ensuing 12-0 surge pushed the lead to 26 (57-31). The 57-36 final was rounded off by a Gibson layup and another Gjeloshi three-point basket.
Leading the Cardinals
Gibson paced the Cardinals with a team-high nine points, connecting on 2-of-3 from three-point range while adding three assists, two steals, and a block. Gjeloshi contributed eight points along with four rebounds, four steals, and two blocks. Earth provided a spark with five points, 10 rebounds—including seven on the offensive glass—and four steals.
Chamiya Foy dominated the glass with a team-high 13 rebounds (six offensive) and added two blocks, while Wellington filled the stat sheet with seven points, three assists, three steals, and a block.
For Pratt
Pratt was led by Jakelic, who posted a dominant double-double with a game-high 20 points (8-of-8 FT) and 20 rebounds (11 offensive), while adding three blocks and three steals. Carlson followed with 11 points (5-of-8 FG), 14 rebounds, and two steals. Kylie Grant recorded 11 points, 10 steals, seven rebounds, and six assists, as Lola Mactavish added 10 rebounds and three steals for the Cannoneers.
Inside the Box Score
York connected on just 17.8 percent of its field goals (13-of-73), hitting six of 24 three-point attempts and converting four free throws. Pratt shot 30.1 percent from the floor (22-of-73) and 65 percent from the free-throw line (13-of-20), though they did not make a three-pointer. The Cannoneers also held advantages in rebounds (66-55), assists (15-9), and steals (22-14), while York led in blocked shots (6-3). Pratt converted 30 York turnovers into 22 points and added 21 fast-break points to maintain control throughout the contest.
