JAMAICA, NY --- (www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College has named Eamon Sheerin as its next head men's and women's cross country and track & field coach, Director of Athletics Carl Christian announced on Friday.

"I'm truly honored to be named the head men's and women's cross country and track and field coach at York College. Having dedicated my career to this sport as both an athlete and coach, I'm passionate about developing student-athletes both on and off the track. York College has a proud and historic tradition of excellence in cross country and track and field, and I'm excited to build on that success while creating new opportunities for our teams to thrive," said Sheerin

"We are happy to welcome Eamon Sheerin to the Cardinals family, as the new head coach of York College's cross country and track & field programs. York has a proud and historic tradition in these sports, and with our newly renovated track and upgraded training facilities, this presents a tremendous opportunity to reestablish and elevate the program.  Sheerin's experience as a student-athlete at the NCAA Division II, Division III, and NJCAA Division III levels — combined with his success as a coach and leader — positions him well to recruit and develop talented student-athletes who will thrive here at York," said Christian.

Sheerin joins York after serving as head coach of the men's and women's cross country and track & field programs at his alma mater, Nassau Community College (NCC), from 2022-24.

In his first year at NCC, Sheerin made an immediate impact. During the outdoor track season, he brought ten athletes to the NJCAA National Championships, earning three top-10 finishes on the women's side and two on the men's.

Known for fostering a program culture rooted in passion, unity, and high-level performance, Sheerin's athletes are recognized for their camaraderie, vocal support, and drive to build success together.

As a student-athlete, Sheerin competed at the NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, and NJCAA Division III levels. He concluded his collegiate career at NCAA Division II Adelphi University, competing from 2017–2019 in the 800m, 1500m, mile, 3000m, and 5000m for indoor and outdoor track, and in cross country from 2017–19. Sheerin holds personal bests of 4:16 in the 1500m and 16:49 in the 5000m.. He competed in five Northeast-10 (NE10) Championships and was a two-time NE10 Academic Honor Roll selection.

Sheerin earned his bachelor's degree in social work from Adelphi in 2020, followed by a master's degree in social work in 2021.

Before Adelphi, Sheerin competed for one year (2016–17) at NCC, running cross country and indoor/outdoor track & field. He qualified for the 2017 NJCAA DIII Outdoor National Championships, placing 11th in the 1500m (4:22.38).

Sheerin began his collegiate athletic career at SUNY Cortland, competing for the NCAA Division III cross country team in 2014 and the indoor track & field team in 2014–15.

A native of Syosset, New York, Sheerin holds a USATF Level 1 Cross Country Coaching Certification.

In addition to his collegiate coaching background, Sheerin has held leadership and coaching roles with several community-based and developmental running organizations, including The Running School and Northport Running Club. From 2011-14, Sheerin also served as an athletic training intern at Syosset High School, gaining valuable experience in sports medicine and athlete care.
