www.YORKATHLETICS.com)Â York College women's basketball returned to home surroundings Friday evening against the Hunter College Hawks (12-4, 7-0 CUNYAC), scoring a season-high 49 points in a 76-49 setback from York College Gymnasium.
How it Happened
- A Jeana Clemons mid-range jumper gave the Cardinals an early 4-2 edge.Â
- Hunter responded with a 14-0 blitz to lead 16-4 at the 4:50 mark of the first period.Â
- Both squads essentially traded buckets the rest of the quarter, Alexa Charles converted a fast break layup for the Hawks with the clock expiring to go up 24-14 heading into the second frame.Â
- Gianna Henriquez's layup with 3:46 left in the half gave Hunter its first 20-point advantage (36-16) of the evening.Â
- Alicia Gumbs closed out the half for York with a layup with 44 seconds left, trimming the deficit to 15 (40-25).
- The Hawks started the second half on fire, as a 7-0 spurt saw their lead balloon to 22 points (47-25).
- York showed resolve, cutting the margin to 16 (58-42) following Beautifull Earth's fast break layup with 2:37 remaining in the third quarter.Â
- Henriquez's three-point play sealed Hunter's 21-point edge (65-44) heading into the final stanza.
- An 11-5 fourth quarter scoring advantage saw the Hawks triumph 76-49.
Leading the Cardinals
- Gumbs scored a team-leading 22 points (9-of-22 FG, 3-of-3 FT) and also paced York with four assists.
- Madison Plaza poured in a career-best 19 points (6-of-17 FG, 2-of-7 3FG, 5-of-6 FT) and added three assists and a block.
- Earth tallied team-highs in rebounds (8) and steals (4).
- Clemons nabbed a pair of steals.
- Michelle Mancuso pulled down six rebounds while Tyla Hooks followed with four. Â
For Hunter
- Charles recorded game highs in points (26), rebounds (11), and steals (5).Â
- Henriquez totaled 15 points (7-of-9 FG), eight rebounds, two blocks, and two steals.
- Erin Cosio contributed 14 points (4-of-8 3FG, 2-of-2 FT), five rebounds, four assists, and two steals.Â
- Kimberly Lau added eight points and a game-leading six assists.Â

York shot 32.8 percent (19-of-58) from the floor, 25 percent (3-of-12) from beyond the arc, and 61.5 percent (8-of-13) from the charity stripe. The Hawks hit 45.1 percent (32-of-71) of their field goals, 22.2 percent (4-of-18) of their triples and swished eight free-throws. Hunter owned the edge in rebounds (39-28), assists (20-7), steals (17-7), blocks (6-1), points in the paint (52-20), points off turnovers (28-10) and second-chance points (15-12).
