www.YORKATHLETICS.com)Ā York College women's basketball continued CUNYAC play Tuesday evening against the John Jay College Bloodhounds (7-12, 5-3 CUNYAC), scoring a season-best 51 points in a 76-51 defeat inside The Doghouse.Ā
How it Happened
- Both teams traded baskets to open as Madison Plaza's jumper 1:27 in put York on the board.
- John Jay answered with a 12-0 spurt to go up 14-2 at the 6:21 mark.
- Alicia Gumbs keyed a 7-0 Cardinal burst to trim the deficit to five (14-9). A Gumbs free throw with 16 seconds showing on the clock ended a 16-10 first-quarter scoreline.
- The Bloodhounds quickly pushed their lead back to double-digits (21-10) following a layup from Michaela Lattimore.Ā
- After Gumbs drained a triple to make it a 21-14 ballgame, John Jay authored a 11-0 blitz to go up 32-14 at the 3:40 mark of the stanza.Ā
- Both squads went bucket-for-bucket in the final minutes, with Morgan Kimmi's field goal with seven seconds remaining gave the Bloodhounds a 38-21 edge at halftime.Ā
- The Cardinals stayed within striking distance the first few minutes of the third period, as a Gumbs layup made it a 16-point margin (48-32) with 5:32 on the clock.Ā
- Creating separation, John Jay engineered a 17-2 scoring spree to take a game-high 31-point (65-34) advantage with 10:19 remaining in the game.Ā
- Trailing 65-37 entering the final frame, Gumbs sparked a 14-8 extending run to cut the deficit to 22 (73-51), before the Bloodhounds secured a 76-51 victory.Ā
Leading the Cardinals
- Gumbs torched the nets with a season-high 33 points (12-of-26 FG, 4-of-8 3FG, 5-of-8 FT). She also added five rebounds, a team-high five assists, and two steals.
- Plaza chipped in with six points and a block.
- Beautifull Earth hauled in a team-leading seven rebounds (three offensive).Ā
- Off the bench, Tyla Hooks grabbed six rebounds and nabbed two steals while Ceana Adams rejected one shot.
- Michelle Mancuso swished home her first-career triple.Ā
For John Jay
- Ashley Zeolla paced the squad with 21 points (7-of-13 FG, 2-of-4 3FG, 5-of-6 FT) to go along with six rebounds and three steals.
- Lattimore scored an efficient 16 points (8-of-10 FG).
- Alexis Jones led the team with five assists.
- Kimmi (10) and Hadja Bah (12) combined for 22 rebounds.

The Cardinals shot 29.2 percent (19-of-65) from the floor, a team-high 35.7 percent (5-of-14) from downtown, and 50 percent (8-of-16) from the charity stripe. John Jay canned 48.4 percent (31-of-64) of its field goals, and made four triples and 10 freebies.
