www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College women's volleyball opened their road slate Sunday with a battle against the Yeshiva University Maccabees (2-1), losing in straight sets (25-13, 25-10, 25-17) in a non-conference matchup inside Baruch College's ARC Arena.
First Set Breakdown
- Yeshiva raced off to an 8-1 lead.
- Settling into the set, the Cardinals cut it to a five-point (10-5) deficit after kills by Jasmine Vega and Jeana Clemons.
- The Maccabees responded with a 5-0 run to push their advantage to 10 (15-5).
- A pair of kills by York's Samantha Panameno made it 16-8 before Yeshiva tacked on five more points to make it a 21-8 scoreline.
- Despite losing 25-13, the Cardinals spread the offensive attack around, getting kills from Clemons, Jasmine Dias, Jachimma Onwuamaegbu, and Madison Plaza with their final five points.
Second Set Breakdown
- The Maccabees jumped out to a 6-0 edge.
- A smackdown from Clemons cut the lead to five (8-3).
- Pulling away, four-consecutive Maccabee aces from Candace Villavicencio made the scoreline 15-4.
- The Cardinals were unable to get much closer as Yeshiva claimed the stanza 25-10.
Third Set Breakdown
- A pair of kills by Plaza helped York get out to an early 3-2 advantage.
- Yeshiva scored five unanswered points to go up 7-3.
- Inching their way back, the Cardinals went on a mini 4-0 burst to level the score at 11.
- Buoyed by Shany Elmaleh's four aces, the Maccabees blitzed York with a 10-1 spurt, taking a 21-12 lead.
- Talia Finn's kill closed out the match for Yeshiva.
Leading the Cardinals
- Clemons, Plaza, and Onwuamaegbu each recorded four kills.
- Panameno paced the team with three aces, a match-leading nine digs, and 12 assists.
- Onwuamaegbu smacked down the lone block.
- Simranjit Kaur served a pair of aces.
For Yeshiva
- Elle Ohayon paced the Maccabees with a match-best nine kills and 16 total attacks to go along with four aces.
- Finn added seven kills on 15 swings and also served four aces.
- Elmaleh orchestrated the attack with 17 assists in combination with a match-high eight aces.
- Ashley Botnick scooped up eight digs.
Inside the Box Score
York hit a stout .115 on 52 attacks, while Yeshiva attacked at a rate of .333 on 54 swings. The Maccabees also grabbed the advantage in points (75-40), kills (23-16), aces (26-7), and assists (23-15), while both squads each totaled 26 digs.
