York College remains at home Thursday (Sept. 26) for a non-conference matchup against Purchase College

JAMAICA, NY --- (www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College women's volleyball continued conference play Tuesday evening with a home effort versus the Lehman College Lightning (3-6, 1-0 CUNYAC), falling in straight sets (25-15, 25-17, 25-16) inside York College Gymnasium.

First Set Breakdown
  • Two kills and a block by Alanis Vasquez buoyed a 7-2 opening for Lehman.
  • Trailing 10-6, York went on 7-1 blitz helped by two aces from Jasmine Vega to lead 13-11.
  • The Lightning responded with a 6-0 run to go up by four (17-13).
  • With the scoreline at 17-15, Cheyenne Gray-Taitt's three points spearheaded an 8-0 finish for Lehman to clinch the set.
Second Set Breakdown
  • Kills by Erika Vasques and Sahiam Lora facilitated a 5-2 start for the Lightning.
  • Behind 10-5, the Cardinals utilized a 5-2 spurt to trim the deficit to two (12-10).
  • Samantha Panameno's ace made the scoreline 15-12, the closest York got the rest of the frame.
  • A trio of service aces from Lehman's Marlena Thoma sparked a 5-0 burst to go up eight (20-12).
  • Trading points, the Lightning claimed the second stanza following a service error.5.
Third Set Breakdown
  • Four kills by Lehman early on helped the squad lead 6-1.
  • Roaring back, aces by Madison Plaza and Simranjit Kaur helped a 7-2 charge from the Cardinals to level the score at eight.
  • The Lightning claimed four of the following seven points to take a 12-11 advantage.
  • Stepping up the intensity, Lehman pulled away from York after an 8-2 blitz to take a seven-point edge (20-13).
  • Plaza's kill at 21-15 hoped to ignite a rally, however, the Lightning remained calm and finalized a 25-16 victory. 
Leading the Cardinals
  • Plaza and Panameno both led the team with four points. The former had a career-best two solo blocks, and the latter recorded two kills, an ace, and a block. Panameno also had five digs and a team-high three assists. 
  • Alicia Gumbs matched Plaza's tally of two kills.
  • Vega had a team-leading two aces and scooped up seven digs.
  • Maritza Ortega Ramirez matched Vega's seven-dig performance.
For Lehman
  • Gray-Taitt paced the Lightning with a team-best 8.5 points (6 kills, two aces, 0.5 blocked shots).
  • Arianna Calderon and Vasquez both smacked down six kills as well.
  • Lora added three kills and three aces, and Thoma served up a match-high four aces.
  • Mena orchestrated the offense with 14 assists, and Grayana Altidor led the match with 14 digs.
Inside the Box Score
York hit -.174 on 69 attacks, while Lehman attacked at a rate of .075 on 93 swings. The Lightning also had an advantage in points (48-14), kills (31-5), aces (15-6), assists (28-5), and digs (47-33).
