Inspired defending and Fednard’s incredible strike spearhead @yorkcardinals Men’s Soccer past Pratt

York College returns to action Saturday (Sept. 28) versus Medgar Evers College

JAMAICA, NY --- (www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College men's soccer hosted the Pratt Institute Cannoneers (1-5-2) Tuesday afternoon, triumphing 1-0 in a non-conference battle from York College Outdoor Athletic Complex. This result is the team's first victory of the 2024 campaign.

"Today the boys displayed good actions and good behavior. I am proud of them."-head coach Brahim Chhab

First-Half Breakdown
Attacking well early on, the Cardinals tested Pratt goalkeeper Carter Tillman twice in the first 2:31. Less than three minutes later, Brandon Fednard chested down a pass from Jamar Johnson at midfield, took a few dribbles, and unleashed a thunderbolt from around 35 yards over Tillman to give York a 1-0 lead. In a defensive half, the Cardinals held Pratt to only five shots and one on target, as their defensive structure was world-class.

Second-Half Breakdown
Ernest Bawilliam had the first shot of the frame, as the York defender's long shot found the arms of substitute goalie Dimitris Papagiannakopoulos. The Cannoneers' Jude Fox produced a swerving longshot at the 63:08 mark that was saved by Cardinal keeper George Molina (1-2-1). York's defensive gameplan was excellent again, holding Pratt to two off-target attempts in the next twenty minutes. Looking for a dagger second goal, Papagiannakopoulos denied forward Abdul Seck in the 85th minute with a strong right-hand parry. Omri Hadid's effort from 18 yards out in the 88th minute was Pratt's final shot, calmly flying into Molina's hands to preserve the 1-0 victory.

Inside the Box Score
A back-and-forth affair, York controlled the shot (17-12) and shots on target (7-4) battle. Pratt had four corners as opposed to the Cardinals' three. In goal, Tillman (1-3-1) and Papagiannakopoulos combined for six saves as Molina's four-save effort clinched his first-career shutout.
