www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College men's basketball traded first-half leads Saturday afternoon with the Lehman College Lightning (14-8, 9-2 CUNYAC), but were unable to keep pace with the hosts over the final 20 minutes in an 88-60 CUNYAC setback on the road inside The APEX.
How it Happened
- York started confidently, leading 10-6 after Aidony Nivar drained a triple.
- Building on the display, a layup from Tafari Jerome gave the Cardinals a 20-11 advantage with 11:23 remaining in the first half.
- Lehman responded with a swift 9-0 burst to level the score at 20.
- Trailing 22-20, the Lightning ended the first frame on a 16-6 extended run over the final 6:11 to lead 36-28.
- Nivar's layup at 18:58 trimmed the deficit to six (36-30), the closest York got all second half.
- A layup from Lehman's Juan Fernandez with 16:42 remaining made it a double-digit affair (43-32).
- Keeping it close, Jerome's downtown bomb capped off a mini 7-2 run to try and close the gap (51-41).
- Leading by 69-54 with 6:15 on the dot, Lehman's transition buckets facilitated a 12-0 blitz to put the game out of reach, with the Lightning eventually claiming a 88-60 victory.
Leading the Cardinals
- Nivar netted a team-best 16 points (4-10 3FG, 2-of-3 FT).
- Olawale Kila totaled 12 points (4-of-7 FG, 4-of-4 FT) and 10 rebounds to record his 12th double-double of the season (20th career).
- Tyres Desinor had a solid overall performance with nine points, six rebounds, and a team-leading five dimes.
- Jerome chipped in with nine points (3-of-5 FG, 2-of-2 FT) off the bench.
- Austinson Cooke provided a presence inside with five points and five rebounds.
For Lehman
- Kai Parris paced the Lightning with 19 points (7-of-16 FG, 5-of-6 FT), nine rebounds, and four assists.
- Fernandez tallied an efficient 17 points (7-of-13 FG, 3-of-6 3FG).
- Cameron Burns contributed 14 points (6-of-10 FG, 2-of-4 3FG), and four dimes.
- DeAundre Manuel (12 points and 15 rebounds) and Lasana Camara (10 points and 10 rebounds) both reached the double-double marker.
Inside the Box Score
York finished the game hitting 36.7 percent (22-of-60) from the field, 26.1 percent (6-of-23) from 3-point territory, and 66.7 percent (10-of-15) from the free-throw line. Compared to the Cardinals, Lehman shot 46.2 percent (36-of-78) from the floor, 38.9 percent (7-of-18) from long range, and 75 percent (9-of-12) from the charity stripe.
The Lightning controlled the rebound (53-34), assist (17-8), steal (10-4), and block (6-1) departments. Lehman's size and transition speed led them to outscore York in paint points (56-30), second-chance opportunities (18-10), and fast break scoring (10-5).
