www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College men's basketball outscored the Brooklyn College Bulldogs (6-17, 6-6 CUNYAC) in the final 20 minutes but could not overcome a first-half deficit on the road Wednesday evening, dropping a 69-67 CUNYAC decision inside West Quad Center.
How it Happened
- A layup from Serge Thraysbulle gave Brooklyn an early 7-2 lead.
- Storming back, three free-throws from Aidony Nivar gave York a 13-9 edge at the 13:05 mark in the first half.
- Ahead 15-14, Nivar's triple capped off a 9-2 burst for the Cardinals, giving them a nine-point advantage (25-16) with 8:57 remaining.
- York maintained the nine-point lead (34-25) after Tyres Desinor's layup with 5:22 showing on the clock.
- Brooklyn hit the throttle button to end the half, outscoting the Cardinals 14-2 in the final 3:47 to lead 39-36 at intermission.
- A back-and-forth affair to start the second half, the Cardinals opened up a four-point edge (53-49) following Rohan Singh's 3-point play with 11:56 remaining in the game.
- A jumper from Altin Kujak gave Brooklyn the lead back (58-57) at the 8:09 point.
- Level at 59, York opened up a second-half best six-point margin (67-61) when Tafari Jerome canned a mid-range jumper with 3:34 on the clock.
- Settling down, the Bulldogs went on a 6-0 scoring spree to tie it at 67 with 1:48 remaining.
- After a flurry of misses, Jaden Cassanova tipped in the game-winning shot with 3.7 seconds left to claim a 69-67 victory for Brooklyn.
Leading the Cardinals
- Nivar paced the team with a game-high 21 points (6-of-9 FG, 4-of-6 3FG, 5-of-5 FT) and added six rebounds and four assists.
- Desinor recorded his third double-double of the season with 18 points (8-of-14 FG) and 10 rebounds.
- Tafari Jerome chipped in with 12 points (6-of-11 FG) and three dimes off the bench.
- Additionally, Olawale Kila matched Desinor's total of 10 boards, and Singh equaled Nivar's tally of four assists.
For Brooklyn
- Casanova contributed a double-double with 20 points (9-of-16 FG) and 10 rebounds.
- Malik Dale poured in 15 points (6-of-13 FG, 3-of-8 3FG).
- Serge Thraysbulle totaled 11 points and a game-best 14 boards.
- David McFadden distributed a game-high seven assists, while Zuric Harvey authored six of his own.
Inside the Box Score
York shot a proficient 49 percent (25-of-51) from the floor, 41.7 percent (5-of-12) from beyond the 3-point line, and 100 percent (12-of-12) from the charity stripe. Meanwhile, the Bulldogs shot 38.7 percent (29-of-75) from the field and a paltry 22.2 percent (6-of-27) from long distance.
Beyond the shooting percentages, Brooklyn held a slim edge in rebounds (37-36) and assists (22-17). The Bulldogs turned 17 Cardinal turnovers into 14 points and netted 10 fast break points. In comparison, York only scored four points off turnovers and four fast break points.
