www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College men's basketball culminated their non-conference slate Saturday afternoon by registering five double-digit scorers to capture a thrilling 84-82 road win against the Pratt Institute Cannoneers (0-11).
How it Happened
- Aidony Nivar's driving layup gave York a quick 5-0 start.
- Pratt responded with a 10-2 burst to take a 10-7 lead at the 16:47 mark of the first half.
- The Cannoneers extended their edge to six (17-11) after a layup from Ace Bibbs.
- Demitrius Gould's two-pointer trimmed York's deficit to one (19-18) with 11:21 showing on the clock.
- Pulling away, a triple by Cameron Windt with 6:30 remaining gave Pratt a first-half high 10-point advantage (32-22).
- Brandon Barrett's layup at 3:46 capped off a 7-0 spurt for York to make it a one-possession contest (32-29).
- Trailing 34-29, the Cardinals closed the half on a 13-5 extended run to take a 42-39 lead, finished by Nivar's buzzer-beating three-pointer.
- Continuing the first-half momentum, Rohan Singh's pull-up triple pushed York's advantage to 11 (56-45).
- The Cannoneers pulled within four (56-52) following Windt's fast break layup with 5:02 remaining in the game.
- Another quick 7-0 burst for the Cardinals got the scoreline back up to 11 (63-52).
- Controlling the pace of play, York kept the margin within 9-13 points until Mekhi Davis' layup for Pratt made it 80-72 with 3:07 showing on the scoreboard.
- Trailing 82-74, the Cannoneers went on a 8-0 blitz over 54 seconds to level the contest with 37 seconds remaining.
- Following a York offensive foul, Nivar stripped Davis and finished his own putback layup with 15 seconds remaining to secure an 84-82 result.
- Pratt then raced up the floor and fired off a trey, but Windt's attempt hit iron as York claimed victory.
Leading the Cardinals
- Nivar led the squad with 18 points (6-of-13 FG, 4-of-9 3FG) and three steals.
- Barrett recorded his fourth-consecutive double-double, scoring 17 points (7-of-12 FG, 3-of-6 FT) and gathering 11 rebounds.
- Michael Litchfield continued his solid scoring season with 14 points (5-of-9 FG, 3-of-4 3FG).
- Malakai Clark produced an all-around game with a career-high11 points (4-of-7 FG, 3-of-4 FT), eight rebounds, and four assists.
- Gould added 10 points and one steal to go along with and tied Clark's tally of four assists.
- Singh chipped in eight points (2-of-4 3FG), three assists and a steal.
For Pratt
- Windt dropped a game-best 29 points (9-of-9 FG, 7-of-15 3FG, 4-of-5 FT).
- Davis totaled 15 points, eight rebounds, four assists, and two steals.
- Bibbs chipped in with 14 points (7-of-13 FG) and team-highs in rebounds (9) and steals (3).
- Justin Caver generated 12 points (5-of-10 FG, 2-of-5 3FG) and dished out a game-leading 10 assists.
Inside the Box Score
The Cardinals scorched the nets today, shooting a solid 47.7 percent (31-65) from the field, a season-high 50 percent (11-22) from downtown, and 64.7 percent (11-17) from the charity stripe. Pratt shot 43.2 percent (32-74) from the floor, 37.9 percent (11-29) from deep, and made seven free throws. In a close statistical encounter, York had the edge in assists (21-18), while Pratt gathered four more rebounds (44-40), totaled one more steal (8-7), and swatted four shots to York's zero. As the Cannoneers maintained an edge in paint points (42-36) and points off turnovers (22-12), both squads managed 17 second-chance points and 12 fast-break points.
