@yorkcardinals Men’s Basketball lifts lid on CUNYAC slate against Lehman

York College continues CUNYAC play on home court Wednesday (Jan. 8) versus John Jay College

JAMAICA, NY--- (www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College men's basketball opened CUNYAC play Friday evening with a home battle against the Lehman College Lightning (7-5, 1-0 CUNYAC), producing three double-digit scorers in a 102-68 setback inside York College Gymnasium.

How it Happened
  • A triple by Kofi Mends punctuated a Lightning 12-1 start. 
  • Brandon Marks' three-pointer at 11:34 pushed Lehman's edge to 19 (25-6).
  • Anar Ndiaye's layup with 9:51 remaining in the half made it a 20-point scoreline (27-7). The Lightning maintained a 20+ point advantage the rest of the contest. 
  • Trading buckets, Aidony Nivar's tough three-point basket got the score to 42-20 with 2:49 showing on the clock.
  • Lehman's Lassana Camara hit a jumper to end the period at 51-24. 
  • Ndiaye converted a layup at the 13:27 mark to extend Lehman's edge to 37 (71-34).
  • Trailing by 40 (80-40), the Cardinals went on a 7-0 burst to make it an 80-47 scoreline with 7:50 remaining. 
  • The Lightning took a game-best 43-point lead (90-47) following Francisco Demers' transition score at 4:05.
  • York finished the final four minutes on a 21-12 run, with Malakai Clark netting a layup with seven seconds on the clock to close out a 102-68 contest. 
Leading the Cardinals
  • Nivar led the squad with 16 points (5-of-12 FG, 4-of-6 3FG, 2-of-4 FT).
  • Michael Litchfield added 15 points (5-of-15, 2-of-7 3FG, 3-of-4 FT) and two steals.
  • Clark chipped in with nine points (4-of-9 FG) and a team-high eight rebounds.
  • Demitrius Gould tallied 10 points and 10 rebounds off the bench.
For Lehman
  • Kai Parris recorded a double-double, scoring a game-best 17 points (8-of-14 FG) and grabbing 10 rebounds.
  • Kahleem Jennings stuffed the stat sheet with 11 points, seven rebounds, and game-highs in assists (6) and blocks (4).
  • Camara also notched a double-double, totaling 10 points and 14 rebounds, to go along with four dimes, two steals, and two blocks.
  • Ndiaye and Demers scored 15 (7-of-10 FG) and 12 (5-of-8 FG) points off the bench respectively. 
Inside the Box Score
The Cardinals shot 31.2 percent (24-77) from the floor, 33.3 percent (7-21) from downtown, and 72.2 percent (13-18) from the charity stripe. Lehman had a strong shooting display, making 53.8 percent (43-80) of its field goals and 38.9 percent (7-18) of its three-point attempts. The Lightning also maintained a 57-31 rebound advantage and outscored York 66-34 in the paint. Additionally, Lehman had the edge in assists (20-14) and blocks (11-3), while the Cardinals managed 10 steals to the Lightning's six.
