Gumbs joins 1,000-point club for @yorkcardinals Women's Basketball at Centenary

York College returns to action in 2025 at home with a non-conference matchup against SUNY Old Westbury on January 3

HACKETTSTOWN, NJ--- (www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College women's basketball saw senior guard Alicia Gumbs eclipse the 1,000-point plateau Wednesday (Dec. 11) evening in a 78-36 non-conference setback on the road against the Centenary University Cyclones (8-3) inside John M. Reeves Student Recreation Center. 

With 2:29 remaining in the first half, Gumbs sunk home a layup for her 13th point of the contest, becoming the program's 11th member of the 1,000-point club.  




How it Happened
  • Gumbs got the Cardinals on the board at 4-2 following a jumper at the 7:24 mark of the first quarter. 
  • Centenary responded with a 19-0 burst to open up a 23-2 advantage with 2:06 remaining in the quarter. 
  • Another Gumbs jumper ended the frame with the score at 23-4. 
  • A Camryn Rothery dunk gave the Cyclones a first-half high 27-point advantage (35-8).
  • Taking over, Gumbs sparked a 7-0 run for York to trim the deficit to 20 (35-15) with 2:44 left in the half.
  • Kayla Sampong's jumper with 16 seconds showing on the clock finalized the 39-19 first-half scoreline.
  • The Cyclones came out of intermission with a quick 8-0 blitz to extend their lead to 28 (47-10).
  • D'Ani Morales sank a layup at 3:32 in the third stanza to give Centenary its first 30-point edge (55-25).
  • A Beautifull Earth free throw for York with 13 seconds remaining in the third frame made the scoreline 61-26.
  • A 17-10 final quarter closed out a 78-36 victory for Centenary.
Leading the Cardinals
  • Gumbs netted a game-high 26 points (9-of-26 FG, 6-of-7 FT) along with six rebounds and four steals. 
  • Earth produced six points and seven rebounds (six offensive).
  • Madison Plaza recorded four points, and Jeana Clemons generated one block. 
  • Tyla Hooks chipped in with four rebounds.
For Centenary
  • Vatijah Davis poured in a team-leading 20 points (9-of-10 FG) and gathered five rebounds.
  • Alexandra Koon scored 12 points (6-of-14 FG), and totaled team-highs in rebounds (7) and blocks (2).
  • Rothery and Morales each tallied 10 points, and Tanya Elbree dished out a game-leading five assists.
Inside the Box Score
The Cardinals shot 24.1 percent (13-of-54) from the field, 16.7 percent (2-of-12) from downtown, and 72.7 percent (8-of-11) from the charity stripe. The Cyclones connected on 56.5 percent (35-of-62) of its field goals and made seven free throws. Alongside efficiency, Centenary had more rebounds (40-31), assists (29-3), steals (13-6), and blocks (6-1) than York. The Cyclones also patrolled the paint with 58 paint points, recorded 25 points off turnovers, and netted 15 fast break points.
