www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College women's basketball returned to action Saturday afternoon against the Stockton University Ospreys (7-5), inside York College Gymnasium.
Prior to opening tip, senior
Alicia Gumbs was recognized on home court as the program's 11th member of the 1,000-point club after reaching the mark on December 11 at Centenary University.
How it Happened
- Gumbs got the ball rolling with a driving layup to give York a 2-0 lead.
- Stockton controlled proceedings from there, going on a 15-1 run to lead 15-3 at the 3:59 mark of the first quarter.
- The Cardinals responded with an 8-2 burst to trim the deficit to six (17-11).
- Skylar Fowlkes converted a layup with 0:07 on the clock to give the Ospreys a 23-11 advance after the first quarter.
- A 25-1 second stanza pushed Stockton's edge to 36 (48-12) at intermission.
- Playing tough defense, York held the Ospreys scoreless for the opening 5:40 of the third period, outscoring them 4-0 to trim the deficit to 32 (48-16).
- Stockton went on another scoring flurry, utilizing a 15-3 spurt to extend its advantage to 44 (63-19) after three quarters.
- Both squads had solid offensive fourth quarters, with Gumbs netting 14 of York's 21 points in the last frame. The Ospreys poured in 23 points in the period to close out an 86-40 victory.
Leading the Cardinals
- Gumbs totaled a game-high 22 points to go along with five rebounds, five steals, and four assists. This outburst was her fourth 20-point game of the season.
- Madison Plaza contributed eight points, five rebounds, and three steals.
- Beautifull Earth added five points and skied high for a career-best 12 rebounds.
- Tyla Hooks hauled in six rebounds and recorded a block.
For Stockton
- Fowlkes produced an all-around effort with 18 points (8-of-14 FG), a game-high 16 rebounds, four assists, three steals, and a game-leading four blocks.
- Evangelina Kim and Imene Fathi both matched the three steal mark. Kim added nine points (6-of-8 FT) and Fathi dished out a team-best seven dimes.
- ChiChi Wokocha authored a double-double with 14 points (7-of-12 FG) and 14 rebounds.
Inside the Box Score
The Cardinals shot 21 percent (13-of-62) from the floor and canned 14 free throws. Stockton shot 45.9 percent (34-of-74) from the field, 25 percent (5-of-20) from beyond the arc, and added 13 points from the charity stripe. Additionally, the Ospreys grabbed more rebounds (55-32) and tallied more assists (28-6) than York. Stockton's aggressive defense helped produce 54 points in the paint, 27 fast break points, and 26 points off turnovers.
