@yorkcardinals Women’s Soccer generates program record point total in season-finale against Medgar Evers

York College women’s soccer finishes the 2024 campaign with four victories.

JAMAICA, NY--- (www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College women's soccer closed out their 2024 campaign with a non-conference matchup against the Medgar Evers College Cougars (0-11), claiming an 11-2 victory from York College Outdoor Complex. Led by coaches Ovid Cusu and David Santos, the four victories on the season are the most since 2016. 
 
First-Half Breakdown
Melanie Guerrero opened the scoreline 31 seconds in to give York a 1-0 advantage. Rebecca McKenzie doubled the Cardinals' edge in the 7th minute. Getting back into the contest, Medgar Evers found the net through Danajah Lawrence at the 11:35 mark. York re-established a two-goal margin almost three minutes later as Kresanta Jones found the back of the net. McKenzie made it 4-1 in the 17th minute via an assist by Gema Guillen. Brithney Bielma and Karyme Martinez tacked on two goals to push the margin to five (6-1) by the 28:55 point. Another goal by Lawrence trimmed the Cougars' deficit to four (6-2) by intermission.  

Second-Half Breakdown
McKenzie recorded her first-career hat trick with a goal 3:22 after the restart. Guerrero added her third goal in two contests with a 52nd-minute goal to make the score 8-2. Strikes by Bielma, Emelin Cajamarca, and Guillen closed out the 11-2 outcome.

Inside the Box Score
In another controlled performance, York got the better of Medgar Evers in terms of shots (37-2), shots on target (22-2), and corners (10-0). Seeta Tomby and Liya Workeneh (0-2) combined for 11 Cougar saves, while Michelle Mancuso (3-8) recorded the victory for York.  

Outside of the goal scorers, Cajamarca impressed with passing-wise on her way to a career-best four assists, tying Jessica Cornerjo's four-assist mark she set over the Cougars in October  2014. Additionally, Guillen and Jones both chipped in with two assists. Overall, York tallied a program record 32 points on 11 goals and 10 assists.
