York College concludes CUNYAC competition Tuesday (Nov. 5) with a Senior Day showdown against CCNY

NEW YORK --- (www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College women's volleyball continued CUNYAC play Tuesday evening with an encounter against John Jay College (17-6, 5-1), falling in straight sets (25-7, 25-12, 25-5) from The Doghouse. 

First Set Breakdown
  • A kill by Maritza Ortega Ramirez cut York's deficit to 6-4.
  • Helped by four service aces from Madison Reyes, John Jay went on a 14-2 run to lead by 14 (20-6).
  • Josanne Lewis' kill closed out the set for the Bloodhounds at 25-7.
Second Set Breakdown
  • Trailing 3-0, the Cardinals won the following three points to level the score at three. 
  • Simranjit Kaur's ace kept York in it at 7-6.
  • Two aces by Julia Stewart gave John Jay a six-point advantage (12-6).
  • Madison Plaza's smackdown gave the Cardinals life at 15-10.
  • Leading 17-11, the Bloodhounds sealed the 25-12 result with an 8-1 burst.
Third Set Breakdown
  • Behind 6-1, Kaur's ace and kill helped make the scoreline 7-4.
  • Stepping on the gas, John Jay blitzed the Cardinals with an 18-1 spurt to win the stanza at 25-5. Nina Bongiovanni served a match-high seven aces during that stretch.
Leading the Cardinals
  • Finishing with three points apiece, Kaur served a pair of aces as Ortega Ramirez nailed down three kills.
  • Samantha Panameno totaled five digs and orchestrated York's attack with seven assists. 
  • Jasmine Dias scooped up a team-high six digs.
  • Plaza added a pair of kills.
For John Jay
  • Rylea Sandel accumulated a match-leading 12 points (six kills and six aces) to go along with a team-best six digs.
  • Julia Stuart added eight points and Reyes tacked on 7.5 points.
  • Meghan Smith kickstarted the Bloodhound offense with 18 assists.
Inside the Box Score
York hit -.044 on 45 attacks, while John Jay attacked at a .400 rate on 60 swings. The Bloodhounds controlled the battle in points (55-11), kills (30-9), aces (24-2), assists (26-8), and digs (25-23).
