@yorkcardinals Men’s Soccer nets three first-half goals against Maritime

York College returns to play Saturday (Sept. 16) in a non-conference home faceoff against Saint Elizabeth University

THROGGS NECK, NY--- (www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College men's soccer scored three first-half goals Tuesday afternoon against the SUNY Maritime College Privateers (2-1-1), but could not keep up in the second half, falling by the final count of 10-3 in a non-conference road bout from Reinhart Field.

Maritime took seven shots before Jamar Johnson's blocked attempt at the 6:23 mark put York into the shot column. The Privateers opened the scoring over two minutes later when Justin Song tapped home a pass by Chris Vazquez. The Cardinals leveled the score minutes later following a stunning volley from Johnson. This strike was his first career goal for York. A Chris Vazquez goal in the 20th minute gave Maritime a 2-1 lead, but York responded over ten minutes later as Kervin Mondesir slotted home a cross from Marvin Mondesir. Both teams traded goals to end the first frame, as Kervin Mondesir's outside of the box effort with less than four minutes from the interval made the score 3-3.

York looked to take the lead just 1:08 into second-half play, but the Privateer defense blocked Marvin Mondesir's attempt for the Cardinals' lone shot in the final 45 minutes. Maritime's second-half scoring began in the 54th minute when Jack Young rocketed one home on his right foot. Young completed his brace four minutes later to extend the advantage to 5-3. Maritime added goals in the 65th, 68th, 76th, 77th, and 79th minutes to settle the score.

"I am very proud of the boys with how they performed and how they applied playing a low mid block when needed."-said head coach Brahim Chhab

Box score wise, the Privateers maintained the advantage on shots (46-7), shots on target (25-3), and corners. In net, Cardinal goalie George Molina was tested early and often, turning away nine shots in 35 minutes in between the sticks before Alex Conde (0-1-0) took over for the remaining 55 minutes, making a career-high six saves. For Maritime, Agusto LeBron (2-1-1) played the first 76 minutes before Mitidieri saw out the rest of the match.

The Cardinals (0-2-1) return to the pitch Saturday (Sept. 16) to play host to the Saint Elizabeth University Eagles (2-1-1) in a non-conference encounter at 1:15 p.m. from Aviator Field.
