BROOKLYN--- (
www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College men's soccer overturned a two-goal deficit Saturday afternoon against the Saint Elizabeth University Eagles (4-1-1), but could not secure the victory, losing 4-2 in a non-conference home affair from Aviator Field.
First-Half Breakdown
Forward Sebastian London got the Eagles off the mark by intercepting the ball around the 18-yard box and calmly finishing with his right foot at the 8:40 mark. Pushing for a second goal, Franco Arteaga headed home a free kick from Edwin Martinez in the 33rd minute to extend Saint Elizabeth's lead to 2-0. The Cardinals responded right before the interval after a filthy combination from the Mondesir twins saw Marvin Mondesir clean through on goal, where the attacker made a defender miss before slotting one home past goalkeeper Justin Cuoto.
Second-Half Breakdown
With an attempt to push the lead to 3-1 right after halftime, Ethan Mosquera had his penalty expertly saved by Ahmed Algendy (0-2-1). Capitalizing on the save, York's David Luna finished a pass from Kervin Mondesir to level the match at 2-2 in the 51st minute. The strike was Luna's first career goal as a Cardinal. After Marvin Miranda and Londono's efforts were thwarted by Algendy and the post, Saint Elizabeth regained the advantage at the 68:11 mark. From a free kick, Ethan Mosquera headed home from close range following a woodwork ping by Alejandro Lopez. Londono sealed the match almost two minutes later when his fiery right-footed effort from the edge of the 18-yard box found the bottom corner.
"Discipline in defending and attacking as one unit was what the boys applied today. They are really starting to understand how to position themselves on the pitch. I told them not to lose focus on your game when we were down 2-0, and that is exactly what they did."-said head coach Brahim Chhab
Inside the Box Score
