BRONX --- (
www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College softball finished their CUNYAC slate Saturday afternoon with a road doubleheader against the Lehman College Lightning (8-16) from South Field. The doubleheader went away from the Cardinals as York opened with a 15-0 defeat before falling 12-4. During game two,
Shamonie Miller swept three bags to become the program's single-season record holder with 23 stolen bases, breaking Joviette Frederick's previous mark of 22 during the 2011 campaign.
"When I heard the news that I broke the record for stolen bases, I was completely surprised. As a player, I always strive to give my best effort on the field, but breaking a record was never on my mind. It was thrilling to learn that my hard work and dedication paid off, and I was able to accomplish something that was unexpected. It is a great feeling to be recognized for my effort, and it has motivated me to continue to improve and push myself to reach new heights. Overall, breaking the stolen bases record was an unforgettable experience, and I am grateful for the opportunity."- said Miller
"Watching Shamonie Miller today in her final conference game break the single season record for stolen bases was extraordinary. Shamonie did what she normally does when she gets on base and that's steal. And it was beautiful to watch her tie and then break the record by Coach Jovie, who was coaching her at 3rd base in an apparent torch passing."-said head coach Tracey Marshall
