@yorkcardinals Men’s Volleyball close out CUNYAC slate at CCNY

York College will be adding additional non-conference matches to close out the season over the next week

NEW YORK --- (www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College men's volleyball finished their CUNYAC campaign Thursday evening against the City College of New York Beavers (13-6, 8-6 CUNYAC), falling in straight sets (25-4, 25-9, 25-7) on the road inside Nat Holman Gymnasium. 

"The guys tried their hardest and played well in many key moments. We wtill have to work to do, but with some time, we will get there to compete consistently."-said head coach Anthony Reyes

How it Happened
  • York got on the board first with a Beaver serving error before CCNY answered with 10-straight points to take control of the first set.
  • Ahead 18-4, CCNY went on a 7-0 run to win the opening stanza.
  • York kept in close early in the second frame with Glenver Stuart feeding Austinson Cooke for a kill to knot the second set at 3-all.
  • Trailing 11-5, Stanley Sanchez dished a kill to Jaylen Campbell before serving an ace to trim York's deficit to four.
  • Following a service error by CCNY, the Beavers tallied 13 of the next 15 points to take a 2-set advantage.
  • In the third frame, York jumped ahead first off CCNY's attacking error.
  • The Cardinals continued to stay within striking distance as CCNY's third attacking error got York as close as three (9-6) prior to the Beavers  closing out the match with a 16-1 scoring spree to seal the victory.
Leading the Cardinals
  • Cooke debuted for the Cardinals, totaling one kill and a team-best nine attack attempts.
  • Campbell added a kill.
  • Sanchez chipped in with a kill, the team's lone ace, and a team-high three digs. 
For CCNY
  • David Reyes Galvez served 12 aces and handed out 18 assists to move CCNY's offense.
  • Ethan Sherpa nailed down a match-leading six kills and recorded four aces.
  • Tenzin Tsepak added six aces and four kills while scooping five digs.
Inside the Box Score
York hit -.118 for the match. The Beavers maintained an edge in points (60-3), kills (27-2), aces (30-1), assists (27-2), and digs (24-7).
