www.YORKATHLETICS.com)Â York College softball competed Friday afternoon in a CUNYAC doubleheader against the John Jay College Bloodhounds (20-13, 5-1 CUNYAC), falling 20-0 in game one before charging late in a 12-3 defeat in the finale from Padavan Preller Fields.
Game 1: John Jay 20, York 0 (5 Inn.)
- John Jay jumped ahead early by sending 12 batters to the plate in the opening inning to take a 8-0 lead.Â
- Starting pitcher Jailene Santiago struck out the side in the bottom of the first.
- The Bloodhounds tacked on four runs in the top of the third frame on a hit, four walks, and four errors.
- With runners on second and third and nobody out in a 13-0 game, York's Shamonie Miller made a phenomenal catch off the bat of John Jay's Rylea Sandel, doubling off Angelina Schoelles in the process.
- The Cardinals reached base for the first time in the bottom of the fourth following a walk from Lissenny Florentino.Â
- Leading 13-0, buoyed by RBI doubles from Santiago and Sandel, John Jay extended its lead to 20-0 after the road half of the fifth stanza.Â
- Santiago (W, 16-5; 5 IP, 0 H, 1 B, 12 SO) retired the side in order in the last of the fifth to seal the victory for the Bloodhounds.Â
- Sofia Soric (L, 1-9; 5 IP, 13 H, 15 BB, 20 R (9 ER), 1 SO) was tagged with the loss.
- York held the edge in steals (1-0), while John Jay outplayed the Cardinals in hits (13-0), extra-base hits (4-0), and walks (15-1).
- In the field, the Cardinals committed six miscues to John Jay's zero.
Game 2: John Jay 12, York 3 (5 Inn.)
- Helped by five hits and two stolen bases by leadoff hitter Jordyn Prince, The Bloodhounds blitzed York for eight runs in the top of the first frame.
- In the bottom of the second inning,John Jay's Mackenzie Tresch induced a ground out to Alicia Gumbs to get out of a jam with runners on first and second.
- Santiago poked a single to centerfield to give the Bloodhounds a 10-0 lead in the third stanza.
- York attempted to force the issue in the bottom of the third, as Miller advanced to third with one out after a walk, a steal, and a wild pitch. Unfortunately, she was stranded on the corner following a strikeout and groundout.
- Santiago added to John Jay's lead in the fourth, as she laced a 2-RBI single into left field to make it 12-0.
- The Cardinals ran wild on the basepaths in the home half of the fourth, as two steals and two wild pitches plated Nayelly Rojas for York's first run of the contest.
- Following three walks, three stolen bases, and four wild pitches, the Cardinals trimmed the deficit to 12-3 in the bottom of the fifth stanza.
- With runners on second and third, Tresch (W, 1-0; 5 IP, 1 H, 9 BB, 3 R (2 ER), 4 SO) got Tyler Dazey to ground out to seal the win.
- Soric (L, 1-10; 5 IP, 8 H, 10 BB, 12 R (9 ER), 1 SO) was the pitcher of record for York.
- Both programs sprung to life on the basepaths, with the Cardinals having a 6-5 advantage in stolen bases.
- The Bloodhounds got the better of York in hits (8-1) and walks (10-9).
