FLUSHING, NY --- (
www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College women's indoor track & field garnered two honors Wednesday as freshmen
Zaria Neptune and
Peta-Gay Hunter were recognized when the City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) announced its 2022-23 All-Star awards.
Neptune achieved personal records at the CUNYAC Championship meet in the 60-meter and 200-meter events to become York's 20th All-Star selection since 2015-16. The Elmont native medaled in the 200-meter to place second, clocking in at 29.15 for the CUNYAC's second-fastest time of the season. Neptune also crossed the finish line fourth in the 60-meter dash in 8.80 to rank fifth on the CUNYAC Performance List. She contributed to York's fourth-consecutive top-3 finish at the CUNYAC Championships in the 4x400 relay, combining with
Gema Guillen,
Bisola Babanumi and
Emmaly Merced in 5:28.37 to place third. Competing in three meets throughout the season, Neptune produced team-best times in the 60m and 200m events.
"This means a lot to me to be awarded with this honor. I am thankful for the coaches and administrators leading me in this direction. Their assistance and constant support is what pushed me to achieve this award." - said Neptune
Hunter was recognized as the program's third CUNYAC Sportsmanship Award winner since 2016-17, joining the likes of Dorianny Rojas (2018-19) and Alana Johnson (2016-17) during that time frame.
Hailing from Brooklyn, Hunter competed in four meets, and ranked third on the team in the 200-meter (34.27) and fourth in the 60-meter dash (9.64). Hunter also helped set a season-best time in the 4x400 relay (5:25.44) with
Charlia Webb, Merced and Guillen at the Garden State Collegiate Open (Feb. 17).
"I am truly honored and deeply moved to be acknowledged with this award. I never thought I would be awarded this achievement this early in my track and field journey. This award encourages me to strive for greater success and has shown me that pursuing track was the right path, for which I feel blessed. I also want to give a big thanks to my coaches and teammates for their tremendous support." - expressed Hunter.
