York College returns to home court Tuesday (Mar. 28) for a CUNYAC tilt against Brooklyn College

NEW YORK --- (www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College men's volleyball took to the court Thursday evening in a CUNYAC road doubleheader, falling to the Hunter College Hawks (14-5, 10-0 CUNYAC) in straight sets (25-9, 25-6, 25-6) in game one, and (25-7, 25-4, 25-3) in the second match from Hunter Sportsplex.

Game 1: Hunter 3, York 0 (25-9, 25-6, 25-6)

How it Happened
  • York went up 2-1 in the opening set, helped by a kill from Jaylen Campbell.
  • Hunter responded with a 7-0 burst.
  • A kill by Stanley Sanchez sliced Hunter's lead to six (11-5).
  • The Hawks went on an 11-1 run, opening up a 22-6 first-set advantage.
  • The teams split the final six points of the stanza.
  • 11 consecutive points won on Jimmy Chang's serve opened up a 12-0 edge for Hunter in the second set.
  • The Cardinals claimed four out of the next five points to make the score 13-4.
  • A 12-2 spurt from Hunter ended the second period.
  • Cooper Moran served up 14 straight points in the third set for Hunter. 
  • Trailing 18-1, York won five of the final 12 points before the Hawks grabbed victory.

  • Campbell paced York with three kills and the team's lone ace.
  • Sanchez tallied a kill and three digs.
  • Glenver Stuart added a kill and had a team-best 19 attack attempts.

  • Chang paved the way with a match-leading seven kills and three aces.
  • Moran quarterbacked the Hawks with a game-highs in aces (6) and assists (22).
  • Andrew Estiverne chipped in five kills and three aces.
  • Ted Kim also contributed five kills and three aces.

  • Marvin Mondesir served up an ace to cut York's deficit to 22-7 before Hunter sealed the first set.
  • An attack error by Hunter leveled the second stanza at one.
  • A 19-1 burst for the Hawks opened up a 20-2 edge.
  • The Cardinals claimed two of the final six points in the set for a 25-4 final score.
  • An attack error by Hunter made it 1-1 in the third period.
  • Hunter then won 24 of the last 26 points in the last frame.
Leading the Cardinals
  • Sanchez registered a team-leading two points after nailing down two kills to go along with three digs.
  • Algendy scooped a team-best four digs and went for two assists and one kill to hit .143 (career-high).
  • Mondesir served one ace to increase his team-leading total to four on the season.
  • Stuart paced York with 13 attacks and added three digs.
For Hunter
  • Sergio Aguado registered a match-leading 10 kills as part of his 12 points.
  • David Lou also tallied 12 points, serving a match-high seven aces to go with nine digs.
  • Moran distributed 21 assists to captain the Hawks on offense.
  • Kim contributed eight kills.

York finished the match hitting -.068, totaling a season-low six attacking errors.  
Hunter attacked at a rate of .623 and held the edge in points (53-4), kills (36-3), assists (32-3), aces (17-1) and digs (33-11).
