FLUSHING, NY --- (
www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College men's swimming was recognized by the City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) on Tuesday as the league announced its year-end awards.
Competing in his second season as a member of York's men's swimming team,
Alex Winter was named one of 12 CUNYAC All-Stars following the 2023 CUNYAC Swimming Championships. The All-Star distinction is York's first since 2008-09, when Andrew Phillips claimed the honor as a freshman. Winter was also voted as the CUNYAC Sportsmanship Award winner, York's second since 2019-20 (Jeremy Sapeg).
Generating a total of 16 points at the 2023 championship meet, Winter shattered his season best time by 1.78 to place second in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:09.10. Winter also finished fourth in the 100-yard freestyle (56.28) and fifth in the 50-yard freestyle (25.96) events at the year-end meet.
"It is an honor to receive these awards. I would like to thank everyone that stood behind me and supported me to keep swimming throughout the season. This award is for you, thank you! I hope that it can be used as some form of incentive to continue building our swimming program so that we are in the best position next year to compete as a full team." - Alex Winter
During a rebuilding year in which the program competed with a small roster, including at times, being York's lone competitor at the men's meet, Winter swam in all four meets, and continued to lead by example while showing the utmost respect for his teammates, opponents, coaches, officials and staff.
"Alex is supportive and naturally talented. He strives to beat his times in the pool and is a positive role model to his teammates." - co-head coach Stephanie Taibe
