Pair of double-digit scorers lead @yorkcardinals Women’s Basketball against Penn State Abington

York College remain at home next Saturday (Dec. 16) to take on Western Connecticut State University in a non-conference tilt

JAMAICA, NY --- (www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College women's basketball returned to the court Thursday evening against the Penn State Abington Nittany Lions (4-4) as the Cardinals best effort fell short. The Nittany Lions emerged victorious 101-30 in a non-conference decision from York College Gymnasium. 

How it Happened
  • Amirah Hackney's triple gave Penn State Abington an 8-0 lead to begin the game.
  • Madison Plaza got the Cardinals on the board at 8-2 with a layup. 
  • Plaza's bucket at the 6:13 mark in the opening quarter made the score 13-4.
  • The Nittany Lions finished the period on a 12-0 run to lead 25-4.
  • Alicia Gumbs scored her first points of the game with a layup with 5:09 remaining in the half to trim Penn State Abington's lead to 29 (35-6).
  • Kylie Ferry's 3-pointer extended the Nittany Lions' advantage to 38 (46-8) to close out the first-half scoring.
  • Plaza opened York's third-quarter scoring with sixth-straight points. 
  • The Nittany Lions claimed the third quarter 24-10 to go up 52 (70-18).
  • York continued to steadily improve its offensive output as Gumbs scored eight of the Cardinals' 12 points in the final stanza. 
Leading the Cardinals
  • Gumbs led the way with 13 points, six rebounds, two assists, and a block.
  • Plaza added a career-high 11 points, seven rebounds (three offensive), two steals and two assists.
  • Nadaysia Nivar ripped down a career-best eight boards. 
  • Simone Robinson produced five rebounds, two steals and a block while Tyler Dazey corralled six rebounds. 
  • Tamicia Sylvester drained her first-career trey and nabbed two steals. 
For Penn State Abington
  • Hackney netted a game-best 17 points (6-of-11 FG, 4-of-8 3FG) and hauled in eight rebounds.
  • Kylie Frey dropped 16 (6-of-9 FG, 4-of-7 3FG) off the bench.
  • Angela Sanders recorded a double-double with 14 points (7-of-11 FG) and a game-leading 14 rebounds.
  • Kaya Mobley distributed a game-high eight assists. 
Inside the Box Score
The Cardinals shot 20.4 percent (10-of-49) from the field, 14.3 percent from beyond the arc (1-of-7), and 40.9 (9-of-22) from the free throw line. Penn State Abington canned 51.2 percent of its shots (43-of-84), shooting 41.4 percent (12-of-29) from downtown and 30 percent (3-of-10) from the charity stripe.  Beyond the scoreline, the Nittany Lions controlled the battle in rebounds (45-34), assists (31-5) and steals (23-7). Penn State Abington converted 38 turnovers into 44 points, and had the edge in fast break points (29-1), and points in the paint (54-14).
