www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College men's basketball returned to the court Friday night for their CUNYAC opener against the Lehman College Lightning (2-5, 1-0 CUNYAC). With both teams canceling each other out early, the Lightning took control late in the first half, claiming an 89-64 victory from York College Gymnasium.
How it Happened
- Lehman led 12-6 at the 13:32 mark.
- The Cardinals responded with a 9-1 burst after a trio of triples by Rohan Singh to push York ahead, 15-14.
- Level at 17, the Lightning responded with an extended 20-5 spurt to lead 37-22 with 3:22 remaining in the first half.
- A free throw by York's Aidony Nivar with 14 seconds on the clock ended the scoring to slice the deficit to 16 (45-29) at the break.
- York got as close as 13 (49–36) in the second half after Bryce Haynes drilled a 3-pointer five minutes into the period.
- Lasana Camara's layup at the 12:06 mark gave Lehman its first 20-point edge (60-40).
- Juan Fernandez's 3-point basket with 6:44 showing on the clock gave Lehman a game-high 26-point (77-51) advantage.
- A Jayden Stephens free throw with 10 seconds remaining closed out the 89-64 victory for Lehman.
Leading the Cardinals
- Tafari Jerome paced the Cardinals with 13 points (4-of-6 FT) and career-highs in rebounds (9) and blocks (3).
- Singh tied a season-high with 12 points (3-of-4 3FG) and tallied two steals.
- Olawale Kila finished with a team-best 13 rebounds and five dimes to go along with eight points.
- Micaiah Goosby chipped in eight points, five rebounds, two steals and a block.
For Lehman
- Camara recorded a double-double with a team-leading 15 points (6-of-8 FG) and 12 rebounds.
- Kai Parris netted 14 points (5-of-13 FG, 3-of-4 FT) and grabbed eight boards.
- DeAundre Manuel scored 13 points (5-of-14 FG) and hauled in a game-high 16 rebounds.
- Stephens dished out a game-best eight assists.
Inside the Box Score
The Cardinals shot 29.6 percent (21-of-71) from the field, 36.8 percent (7-of-19) from behind the arc and 60 percent (15-of-25) from the free-throw line. Lehman shot 46.6 percent (34-of-73) from the floor, 30 percent (6-of-20) from 3-point territory, and 75 percent (15-of-20) from the charity stripe. Lehman also held the edge in rebounds (53-40), assists (20-10), blocks (6-4), and steals (10-9). Using their height advantage, the Lightning had a +30 (54-24) margin in points in the paint and outmaneuvered York 21-14 in second-chance scoring.
