ork College men's basketball opened the 2023-24 season Wednesday with a sharp shooting display against the St. Joseph's University (L.I.) Golden Eagles (1-0), but were unable to keep pace in a 90-71 non-conference setback inside York College Gymnasium.

- Trailing 3-0, Rohan Singh's 3-pointer capped off an early 8-2 run for the Cardinals.
- The Golden Eagles responded with a 10-2 burst to take a 15-10 lead.
- Trading blows, a layup from York's Micaiah Goosby knotted the score at 22 at the 9:09 mark in the first half.
- The Cardinals re-took the lead at 27-26 following a triple by Singh.
- Behind 32-29 with 4:36 remaining, St. Joseph's blitzed the Cardinals on an 18-4 run to take a 47-36 edge at the half.
- A driving layup by Xavier Allen finalized a 13-0 spurt for the Golden Eagles to start the second frame.
- St. Joseph's pushed the advantage to a game-high 25 (72-47) after two free-throws from A.J. Esposito with 8:27 showing on the clock.
- Making a run, Abdul Seck converted a layup in transition to trim York's deficit to 16 (72-56).
- A corner triple from York's Olawale Kila made the score 77-64 at the 4:31 mark.
- Trailing by 80-64, the Cardinals went on a mini 5-0 run capped off by a trey from Malaki Clark with 2:30 remaining.
- Tightening their defensive effort, the Golden Eagles outscored the Cardinals 11-2 in the final 2:30 to seal the 90-71 victory.

Kila poured in a team-high 27 points (10-of-18 FG, 6-of-10 FT) to go along with seven boards, a career-best six assists, and four steals in 34 minutes of action. Singh handed out four assists and dropped 12 points on 4-of-8 shooting from downtown. Clark chipped in with nine points (3-of-7 FG) and seven rebounds (four offensive) off the bench.
Bryce Haynes distributed a game-high seven assists while Goosby and
Aidony Nivar each nabbed two steals.
Alec Tabada controlled proceedings for St. Joseph's, finishing with 26 points (8-of-14 FG, 8-of-11 FT), a game-best 17 rebounds and four steals. Allen (3-of-11 FG, 9-of-10 FT) and Terrin Roy (5-of-9 3FG) netted 16 points. Justin Turner (3-of-5 FG, 4-of-4 FT) recorded a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Spencer Malloy helped in all areas with 10 points (5-of-11 FG), nine boards, and four dimes.
The Cardinals shot 38.2 percent (26-of-68) from the field, 45.5 percent (10-of-22) from beyond the arc and 56.3 percent (9-of-16) from the free-throw line. The Golden Eagles connected on 44.3 percent (27-of-61) from the floor, 45 percent (9-of-20) from deep, and 81.8 percent (27-of-33) from the line.
York owned the edge in assists (19-15) while St. Joseph's held the advantage in rebounds (47-28) and blocks (6-2) . The Cardinals committed four fewer turnovers, converting 17 Golden Eagle giveaways into 21 points. St. Joseph's won the battle in second-chance points (19-5) and points in the paint (32-26).
