www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College men's basketball competed right until the end Wednesday evening against the Manhattanville College Valiants (2-1), but a pair of free-throws put the Cardinals on the wrong end of an 82-80 non-conference decision inside York College Gymnasium.
How it Happened
- A triple from Rohan Singh gave the Cardinals an early 10-5 lead.
- Jack Scanlon's layup at the 14:30 mark put Manhattanville ahead, 15-13.
- Playing with confidence, Tafari Jerome canned a three to put York up 26-21 with 9:42 remaining in the first half.
- Aidony Nivar's downtown splash gave York its biggest lead of the half at 36-27.
- Trailing 38-31, the Valiants closed in an 11-2 burst over the final 4:23 of the stanza to lead 42-40 at the break.
- Catching fire early in the second half, a 3-pointer by Nivar boosted the Cardinals' 53-47 advantage.
- York pushed the lead to nine (62-53) after Sign sank a trey at the 12:36 mark.
- The Valiants responded with an 11-4 run, capped off by a Benjamin Merritt three, to slice the deficit to 66-64 with 9:31 remaining.
- Holding strong, the Cardinals held Manhattanville scoreless for over four minutes as they extended their lead to eight (72-64).
- With 4:06 showing on the clock, Jerome drilled a 3-pointer to give York a 75-68 edge.
- Manhattanville followed with a 9-1 charge to lead 77-76 with 1:47 left.
- Nivar connected on a 3-pointer at the 1:24 mark to give York a 79-78 advantage.
- Down to the final possession, Tommy Lotito got fouled on a drive and calmly sank two free-throws to close out an 82-80 victory for the Valiants.
Leading the Cardinals
- Olawale Kila totaled a team-high 20 points (8-of-15 FG, 4-of-6 FT) and five assists to go along with eight boards and two blocks for York.
- Nivar netted a career-high 19 points (7-of-13 FG, 5-of-10 3FG) and added a team-leading three steals.
- Micaiah Goosby contributed 14 points (6-of-12 FG) and seven rebounds.
- Singh tallied 12 points and three dimes.
- Jerome debuted for the Cardinals with 13 points (4-of-7, 2-of-4 3FG, 3-of-4 FT) and eight rebounds.
For Manhattanville
- Lotito's double-double sparked Manhattanville to victory with a game-leading 28 points (10-21 FG, 6-of-7 FT) and 10 assists to go with seven boards.
- Ryan Giordano controlled the paint on offense, scoring 20 points (9-of-13 FG), grabbing six rebounds, and distributing five assists.
- Tony Hastings chipped in with nine points (4-of-7 FG) and six rebounds as Merritt netted nine points (3-of-5 3FG) on three clutch field goals.

The Cardinals shot 48.4 percent (30-of-62) from the field, 57.9 percent (11-of-19) from beyond the arc and 56.3 percent (9-of-16) from the free-throw line. The Valiants connected on 45.1 percent (32-of-71) from the floor, 29.6 percent (8-of-27) from deep, and 58.8 percent (10-of-17) from the line. York owned the edge in rebounds (39-36) and blocks (4-2), while the Valiants held the advantage in assists (22-17). The Cardinals won the battle in fast break points (12-9), and Manhattanville dominated in second chance points (14-7) and points off turnovers (21-12).
