www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College women's basketball continued their three-game homestand Tuesday evening, as the Wesleyan University Cardinals (4-1) pulled away (91-27) in a non-conference matchup from York College Gymnasium.
How it Happened
- Alicia Gumbs drained a jumper 1:26 in to put York on the board at 5-2.
- Wesleyan went on a 13-1 run to lead 18-3 at the 3:59 mark of the first quarter.
- Two quick buckets by Gumbs made it 18-7.
- A layup from Ceci Loughlin with 32 seconds remaining in the first quarter closed out the scoring with Wesleyan leading 27-9.
- Both squads traded buckets in the opening minutes, with Gumbs sibling two jumpers to maintain an 18-point deficit (31-13).
- Alana Jones' layup at the 2:04 point in the second quarter capped off a 12-1 spurt to extend Wesleyan's lead to 43-14.
- Jones' bucket with 0:12 showing on the clock made the score Wesleyan 47-16 at halftime.
- Melanie Guerrero's jumper for York at the 1:13 mark of the third quarter ended the scoring with Wesleyan leading 67-23.
- Wesleyan outscored York 24-4 in the fourth to claim a 91-27 victory.
Leading York
- Gumbs had a team-high 15 points to go along with four rebounds (three offensive), two steals and two assists.
- Madison Plaza added eight points, a team-leading three dimes and a career-best 11 rebounds.
- Guerrero each nabbed Nadaysia Nivar one steal.
- Simone Robinson secured a career-high three rebounds
For Wesleyan
- Felicia Fongemie netted a game-high 16 points (7-of-11 FG).
- Olivia Quinn notched a double-double with 14 points (6-of-12 FG) and 10 rebounds, to go along with four steals.
- Tori DaCosta (14), Maggie Lee (12), and Ali Jones (10) all scored in double-figures.
- Ali Jones led the team with 12 rebounds, while Alana Jones distributed a game-high nine assists.
Inside the Box Score
The Cardinals shot 19.2 percent (10-of-52) from the field, 7.1 percent (1-of-14) from downtown, and 60 percent (6-of-10) from the charity stripe. Wesleyan made 49.4 percent (39-of-79) percent of their field goals, shooting triples at a 16.7 percent (3-of-18) rate and free throws at a 76.9 percent (10-of-13) clip. Outside the scoreline, Wesleyan had the edge in rebounding (54-19), assists (26-5), steals (16-5), and blocks (6-0). Wesleyan capitalized on transition opportunities, scoring 27 fast break points and 31 points off turnovers.
