www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College men's basketball returned to home court Tuesday against the SUNY Maritime College Privateers (3-0), falling 80-50 in a non-conference matchup from York College Gymnasium. '
How it Happened
- A layup by Jake Murphy capped off a blazing 13-2 start for Maritime.
- The Cardinals stormed back with a 12-0 run to take a 14-13 advantage at the 12:24 mark.
- Leading 20-18, the Privateers utilized an 11-2 burst to push their edge to 31-20 with 4:06 remaining on the clock.
- A free throw by Jovan Germain with 59 seconds left in the first half closed the scoring with Maritime up by 14 (37-23).
- The Privateers extended their advantage to 25 (50-25) in the second stanza after Jake Murphy splashed a triple at the 15:25 mark.
- York got as close as 22 for the rest of the half as Aidony Nivar's fastbreak layup with 9:05 remaining made it a 59-37 contest.
- Austinson Cooke's layup with ticks left closed out the scoring at 80-50.
Leading the Cardinals
- Nivar led the team with 12 points (5-of-11 FG) and two steals.
- Tyres Desinor shined with 11 points (5-of-10 FG), and team-highs in rebounds (9) and assists (4).
- Olawale Kila contributed 10 points (5-of-14 FG) and eight boards.
For Maritime
- Murphy paced the Privateers with 21 points (8-of-12 FG, 4-of-5 3FG) and nine rebounds.
- Tyler Anderson netted 15 points (5-of-12 FG, 2-of-5 3 FG).
- Theo Noble played an all-around game with nine rebounds and a team-best six assists.
Inside the Box Score
The Cardinals shot 31.4 percent (22-of-70) from the field, 20 percent (3-of-15) from 3-point range and 60 percent (3-of-5) from the free-throw line. Maritime connected on 42 percent (29-of-69) from the floor, 38.2 percent (13-of-34) from beyond the arc and 69.2 percent (9-of-13) from the stripe.
York held the edge in points in the paint (38-30) and drew even in blocks (3-3) with the Privateers. Maritime held a +7 (42-35) rebounding advantage that saw the Privateers score 10 second-chance points off 10 offensive boards. The Privateers also converted York's 16 turnovers into 15 points while outplaying the Cardinals in assists (19-13) and steals (9-5).
