@yorkcardinals Women’s Volleyball concludes CUNYAC home slate against Hunter

York College rounds out its CUNYAC schedule Tuesday (Oct. 31) in a road matchup against Brooklyn College

JAMAICA, NY --- (www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College women's volleyball matched up Tuesday evening against the Hunter College Hawks (18-7, 6-0 CUNYAC), dropping a three set affair (25-6, 25-9, 25-6) to close out their CUNYAC home slate inside York College Gymnasium. 

First-Set Breakdown
  • After Hunter claimed the opening point, Nadaysia Nivar slammed home a kill to level the score for York.  
  • The Hawks responded with four-straight points before Nivar stopped the run with a kill to slice York's deficit to three (5-2).  
  • Leading 6-3, Hunter went up big with a 10-2 scoring spree to build a double-digit advantage.   
  • Hunter closed out the set with nine unanswered points.
Second-Set Breakdown
  • Both teams traded the first six points.
  • Level at three, the Hawks utilized a 14-0 burst to lead 17-3.
  • The Cardinals responded with some fight, taking five of the following six points to trim the deficit to 10 (18-8).
  • Hunter regained momentum soon after, as an ace by Pearl Mensah capped off a 25-9 victory.
Third-Set Breakdown
  • Buoyed by the serves of Natalie Polanco and Desiree Morales, Hunter took a commanding 18-2 advantage. 
  • Keeping themselves alive, the Cardinals claimed four of the next eight points to make the score 22-6.
  • Izabella Williams served two aces to seal the match at 25-6.  
Leading the Cardinals For Hunter
  • Williams anchored Hunter with 14 points on eight kills and six aces to go along with six digs.
  • Morales served up two aces to go along with nine digs and five kills.
  • Kiara Abreu quarterback the Hawks offense with a game-high 19 assists.
  • Tionna Moss recorded a match-high nine kills and 18 total attacks.
Inside the Box Score
The Cardinals attacked at a rate of -.020 while the Hawks hit .361. Hunter finished with the edge in points (59-5), kills (38-3), aces (21-0), assists (33-3), and digs (43-18). However, York held the edge in blocks (2-0).
