@yorkcardinals Women’s Soccer nets pair of goals in second-half charge at Brooklyn

York College remains on the road Wednesday (Oct. 18) for a CUNYAC showdown against CCNY

BROOKLYN --- (www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College women's soccer scored a season-high two goals Monday afternoon but could not overcome a halftime deficit, falling to the Brooklyn College Bulldogs (2-8-2) by the final count of 6-2 in a non-conference affair from Brooklyn College Field.

"The key was the intensity that we came out with in the second half. We spoke about that during half time and the team responded."-said head coach Winston Willabus

First-Half Breakdown
  • A stalemate for the first 17 minutes, Brooklyn Mary Khosh placed home a shot from outside the 18-yard box at the 17:55 mark.
  • Threatening again almost six minutes later, Angelina Vasta turned in a loose ball in the box to push the Bulldogs' advantage to 2-0.
  • Vasta made it 3-0 in the 28th minute after her strike found the bottom right corner from a narrow angle.
Second-Half Breakdown
  • The Cardinals let their intentions be known early on, as a free-kick by Alisha Adams threatened the Bulldog net.
  • York got on the board at the 58:19 mark, as good work from Naomi Alejandra Rodriguez on the right wing led to Adams floating the ball over netminder Ceren Kosterelioglu from 20 yards out for her second-career goal.
  • In the 68th minute, York made the score 3-2 after Emelin Cajamarca poked in a scramble for her fourth-career goal.
  • On the ropes, Sage Bernstein replied 51 seconds later for the Bulldogs as she struck following an interception near York's 18-yard area.
  • Bernstein then set up Imani Dickens not even a minute later to push Brooklyn's advantage to 5-2.
  • Brooklyn closed out the scoring with 13 minutes to go as Bernstein finished off a fine move with her right foot.

"We made some personnel adjustments in the second half, moving Aisatou Diallo into goal and Naomi to her more natural forward position. Having Naomi as the centerpiece of teh attack allowed us to create more opportunities for other attacking players."-commented coach Willabus

Inside the Box Score
Besides the box score, Brooklyn maintained an edge over York in shots (27-9), shots on target (16-7), and corners (8-4). The Cardinals' seven shots on target were a season-best, and Adams produced a career-best four attempts on goal. Playing in net for the first half, Alejandra Rodriguez (0-4-0) collected three saves. Aisatou Diallo debuted in goal in the second frame, stopping seven shots. Kosterelioglu (1-2) saved four shots for Brooklyn.
