@yorkcardinals Men’s Basketball blows past John Jay for CUNYAC triumph

York College match up against Lehman College on Friday (Jan. 27) in a CUNYAC road affair

JAMAICA, NY --- (www.YORKATHLETICS.comYork College men's basketball won their third-straight CUNYAC game on Tuesday night, defeating the John Jay College Bloodhounds (4-15, 3-5 CUNYAC) by the final count of 93-69 in a CUNYAC home matchup inside York College Gymnasium. The 24-point win was the Cardinals' largest margin of victory this season.

How it Happened
  • Up 14-10, York utilized a 9-0 run to take a 13-point advantage (23-10).
  • Mert Zor canned three-straight threes to push York's lead to 19 (41-22) at the 6:13 mark.
  • Terrell Fullerton's triple with 2:02 remaining in the first half pushed the Cardinals' advantage to a game-best 27 (51-24).
  • John Jay's Adrian Kopec knocked down a three with 35 seconds left to trim the deficit to 53-29.
  • York pushed its lead to 31 (60-29) after Matthew Trepeta's trey at the 1:47 into second-half play.
  • Devine Chisholm's free throw with 6:54 remaining extended the Cardinals' advantage to a game-high 32 (81-49).
  • The Bloodhounds outscored York 20-12 to end the game as Jordan Evelyn's layup with two seconds left settled the scoring.
  • The Cardinals led by over twenty for the entire second frame.

Fullerton paced York with 19 points (7-of-12 FG FG, 3-of-5 3FG) and five assists. Zor sparked the Cardinals off the bench by netting a season-high 16 points (6-of-7 FG, 4-of-5 3FG).  Chisholm chipped in with 13 points (2-of-5 3FG, 5-of-6 FT) and five assists. Matthew Trepeta tallied nine points (3-of-5 3FG) and dished out four dimes. Olawale Kila grabbed a game-high 13 boards. William Brown led York with two steals, and Tyres Desinor, Austinsson Cooke, and Micaiah Goosby each recorded a block. All 11 Cardinals scored at least two points.

Isaac Holmes controlled proceedings for John Jay, putting up a game-high 27 points (10-of-16 FG, 2-of-5 3FG, 5-of-7 FG), and added five rebounds and four steals to his stat line. Garrison Watkins was the Bloodhounds' only other double-digit scorer, pouring in 15 points (6-of-12 FG, 3-of-4 3FG) to go along with four rebounds and two steals. Evelyn captained John Jay with three assists.

The Cardinals shot the lights out of the gym, hitting on 55 percent (33-of-60) of their shots, a season-best 57.1 percent (12-of-21) from deep and a stout 78.9 percent (15-of-19) from the line. John Jay sank 44.3 percent (27-of-61) from the floor, 41.2 percent (7-of-17) from beyond the arc and 40 percent (8-of-20) percent from the charity stripe. 

York maintained an advantage in rebounds (38-28) and assists (20-9). Additionally, the Cardinals' bench outscored John Jay's second unit, 40-13. The Bloodhounds had more points off turnovers (27-19) and fast break points (13-11), while York held the edge in second-chance scoring (11-9). Both teams had 36 points in the paint.
